About The Position


Inspectors in this role conduct various inspections and plan reviews to ensure compliance with the Floodplain Regulations. Working with the plan reviewers, you ensure the inspection requirements are covered during the Sand and Gravel permit review. You will also answer citizen calls and requests for information and/or complaints and assist property owners, engineers, and permittees with their permit applications and construction plans.

We Require


  • High School Diploma or GED
  • MSHA Mine Safety Class and Certification or ability to obtain certification within two months
  • Two years of experience as an inspector OR two years of experience in an engineering or construction field, including surveying, drainage inspecting, hydrology, plan reviewing/examination, and interpretation
  • A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis


Job Contributions


  • Respond to areas impacted by flooding events to provide initial site assessments, gather constituent information, and investigate citizen calls for service related to the event or floodplain management in general
  • Provide field analysis and review of submittals for construction from permit applicants and property owners before issuance of Floodplain Use Permits
  • Respond to inquiries and answer general and specific questions relating to the Floodplain Regulations, drainage inquiries, plan review requirements, and floodplain management and facilitates a solution if required
  • Recognize and review issues concerning floodplain and drainage problems and refers them to the appropriate branch or department for further review
  • Conduct inspections and identify violations and compliance issues in the field, providing guidance to property owners as needed
  • Ensure by field inspection that sand and gravel extraction and new construction activities are developed in accordance with approved plans and Floodplain Use Permit stipulations


Working Conditions


  • The work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties & responsibilities the employee maybe exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations. Position is subject to atmospheric conditions: Fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation
  • Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards and noise and vibration
  • Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 10 – 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 - 20 pounds constantly
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire
  • Incumbent may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, poor, ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel


Protective Equipment Required


  • Hard hat, safety vest, safety glasses, steel toed boots, long pants
