This position is responsible for leading or supporting innovation projects to deliver coating platform technologies for different business units in the Performance Coatings Group (PCG) to develop next generation and breakthrough products for profitability and market differentiation.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

The position is accountable for the following:
  • Maintain a safe, clean, organized work area.
  • Adhere to all quality and safety policies and procedures
  • Leverage learnings and good practices to PCG business units
  • Interact with the technical and marketing teams in business units to identify product/technology needs and challenges and provides technical input and support as required
  • Support competitive monitoring of focus areas relevant to PCG business units
  • Train and/or guide junior level chemists
  • Prepare and test coating formulations with novel materials developed internally or externally to meet desired requirements
  • Develop novel solutions to overcome technical barriers of platform technology development
  • Ensure appropriate IP protection by timely submitting invention disclosure and patent application
  • Interact with external vendors to capture new technologies for coatings
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team members to solve problems efficiently
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have problem solving, project management, and presentation skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
  • 2+ years of experience in an industrial R&D setting
  • 5+ years of experience working in a lab
  • Must understand polymer structure and property relationships
  • Must understand coating chemistry/crosslinking reactions and curing mechanisms
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge and experience with analytical and materials science tools
  • 2+ years of experience relevant to coatings, particularly to radiation cure coatings
  • 7+ years of experience working in a lab
  • Knowledge and experience with UV/UV LED photoinitiators or photochemistry
  • Knowledge and experience with DFSS and DOE
  • PhD in Organic chemistry, Polymer chemistry or a related field with a radiation cure coating or photochemistry background.

Travel Requirements: 5% Domestic and International
