Job Description

The City of Murphy seeks to add an Information Technology Director to its’ dynamic team. Under direction of the City Manager, our IT Director will be responsible for the planning, organizing, and execution of all operational activities of the IT Department. Functions include, directing and administering IT operations to meet customer needs and business objectives, supporting and maintaining existing applications as well as developing new technical solutions, overseeing the administration of IT infrastructure, and managing the design, development and implementation of information security, all while modeling our core values of Murphy P.R.I.D.E.

Schedule Commitment
The IT Director works a 40 hour per week hybrid schedule during standard days of Monday-Friday. Will work extended hours as needed to attend City Council meetings and other meetings as necessary.

Eligibility
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology Management, Business Administration or related field
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver's License - driving record must be in compliance with City policy
  • Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in the operation and maintenance of computer hardware and software, server and network administration, cybersecurity, and the development and analysis of information systems and applications
  • Two (2) years supervisory experience in information systems management
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certified Government Chief Information Officer (CGCIO)
  • Certified in National Incident Command Systems (NIMS) training courses - ICS 100, 200, 300 and 400, or able to achieve certification within one year
  • Microsoft and Certified Network Engineer certifications
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology Management, Business Administration, Public Administration or related field
  • Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)

  • Exceptional customer service skills and fostering a spirit of collaboration within the department and the organization.
  • Must have a proven record of analytical reasoning, offering the appropriate facts and figures when advocating for a new technology or business practice.
  • Delegating of tasks with authority and clarity, encouraging the department to continuously improve performance and customer service.
  • Exceptional communication skills-including speaking, writing, listening and presenting to staff, citizens, and City officials-are a must.
  • Emotional intelligence and diplomacy will be key to success.
  • Must demonstrate flexibility, with a willingness to adjust quickly to changing circumstances and priorities.
  • Knowledgeable of current technology trends, proposing well-researched options and alternatives to improve business operations.
  • Must be willing and able to provide hands-on assistance during unforeseen circumstances, even if they occur outside of normal business hours.

About the Department
Murphy’s Information Technology (IT) Department operates with a staff of 5, an annual budget of nearly $1 million and is a service organization that facilitates hardware, software, and network services, telephone, mobile, and wireless access, and cybersecurity. The department also provides centralized support to 9 departments/16 divisions and the Geographic Information System (GIS). IT implements and sustains reliable technology solutions that drive the experience of our residents and facilitate the work of Council members, board & committee members, and City staff.
