JOB SUMMARY
- The Infection Preventionist will support a culture of continuous performance improvement and participate in the implementation of evidence-based practices designed to ensure safety, prevent infections and support the attainment of outstanding clinical outcomes. Participates in the development and execution of quality initiatives related to infection prevention and control, outbreaks for patients and staff and ongoing reporting (internal and external).Supports medical staff, hospital administration, hospital departments, and committees in executing plans for improvement. Conducts surveillance to prevent and reduce infection rates throughout the organization. Conducts reporting of communicable diseases and public reporting of infections as required by state law and regulatory guidelines. Reports to the Infection Prevention Specialist.
- Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures
- Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.
- Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self education, attends ongoing educational programs)
- Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the core values, mission and vision of the organization
- Adheres to the hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines
- Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur.
- May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids, or infectious organisms.
- General environment: Works in a well-lighted, air-conditioned area, with moderate noise levels.
- May be required to change from one task to another of different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.
- Long-distance or air travel as needed - not to exceed 10% travel.
- May be scheduled as needed including overtime
Qualifications
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- 4 year / Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Related Field (Preferred)
- 2 year / Associate Degree in Healthcare Related Field (Required)
- 1 - 2 years clinical experience, preferably in infection control (Required)
- Not Applicable - No Certification and Licensure Requirements Required or Preferred
