POSITION DESCRIPTION

Indigenous Migratory Education
Coordinator

Migrant Education Program Manager


Job Summary:
The ESD 105 Migratory Education Program (MEP) Title I, Part C Program is looking for an
Indigenous (Migratory) Education Coordinator who will work with school districts,
representing Indigenous youth, and families who practice their migratory ways of life for work
and sustenance, to support their children’s educational and cultural needs within the school
system. This position will work with students from PreK-12 including Out of School Youth
(school-eligible youth who are not attending school) with various schools within our ESD 105
Region.
Essential Job Functions

1. Provide supplementary support and intervention services to increase the academic
achievement of identified eligible Migratory Indigenous students.

2. Meet academic needs by facilitating access to supplemental services through
partnerships, referrals, and/or direct services.

3. Provide training and technical assistance to district staff on the (Title I, Part C)
Program and how it serves Native students, and what criteria make a Native student
eligible for the migrant program.

4. Provide training, technical assistance, and direct services to school districts on
models and best practices for parent/family engagement.

5. Function as advocate and liaison between the school district and the Indigenous
community for the benefit of the student and family.

6. Coordinate with OSPI, MSDRS, school districts, and other educational agencies to
identify, recruit, assess, and connect Out of School Youth migratory students with
academic or other post-secondary educational services.

7. Plan, develop and present outcomes of Migratory Indigenous-related support and
services at local, regional, state, and national meetings, workshops, and conferences,
as directed by the (Title I, Part C) Program and the Washington State Service
Delivery Plan.

8. Develop and implement a Indigenous cultural training model to assist teachers and
staff within the ESD 105 Region to gain a greater awareness and understanding of
the Migratory Indigenous culture.

9. Lead with values of equity that include racial equity, diversity, and inclusion.

10. Develop and maintain a close working relationship with community agencies, and
businesses to secure appropriate resources to achieve Migratory Indigenous student
success.

11. Responsible for making regular contact with students and parents to encourage
parental support in relation to educational goals and ensure student academic
success.

12. Responsible for coordinating and collaborating with departmental staff, schools,
tribal entities, parents/families, and communities to support Migratory Indigenous
children's success in school or other educational entities. This includes any cultural
and educational activities in and out of school, year-round

13. Must assume a fair share of responsibility for general program activities that at
times may go beyond the regular hours, including attending staff meetings, other
meetings as requested, and other job-related duties as assigned by the Program
Manager and the Executive Director.

14. Design and implement strategies to recruit and retain diverse students' overall
enrollment into the (Title I, Part C) program. Develop positive relationships with
school counselors, teachers, parents/families, and community organizations to
strengthen the recruitment and retention of all diverse students; assist with
recruitment activities as directed by ESD 105.

Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience

1. Bachelor's Degree in Education, Indigenous Studies, Social Services, Behavioral
Sciences, or related field.

2. Experience serving Indigenous students and/or their families. Must understand
tribal governments and be aware of significant historical, social and cultural aspects
of tribes and tribal organizations.

3. Experience in educational support, youth development, and/or human services
with low-income and culturally diverse populations.

4. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Analyze problems and implement
complex and creative solutions. Must know how culture affects verbal and non-
verbal communication-ability to articulate and convey information to a wide range
of audiences.

5. Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines, set work
priorities, and manage workload.

6. Ability to work cooperatively with and contribute to a diverse workplace through
ideas or experience.



Preferred Education and Experience

1. Master’s Degree in Education or Social Work or a similar field preferred.
