This job contributes to REI’s success by serving as a Freight Coordinator for the Receiving Department within the Distribution Center (DC). Operations include the coordination of freight (upon arrival and upon departure) to include, but not limited to the following areas: accurate arrival or delivery of freight to maximize DC operations and efficiencies, coordination efforts to support a safe and Lean 6S operating environment, and pushed communications to departments impacted by any unexpected changes or demands on product. Models and acts in accordance with REI’s guiding values and mission.

These are the skills and experiences we look for in our Inbound Freight Coordinator:
  • Assists with the invoicing of all event pallets when released from third party warehouses.
  • Coordinates with all trucking vendors for empty containers/ trailers for pick up and removal from yard.
  • Oversees pallet recycling area; informs pallet recycler of full pallet trailer and coordinator unload when recycled cardboard arrives from retail stores.
  • Maintains ongoing relationships and serves as member on various committees to represent departmental and/or overall company interests; communicates company needs and expectations internally or externally; provides review, input and recommendations as appropriate.
  • Invoices all Direct to Consumer (DTC) oversized orders and inputs transaction for reporting purposes. Examples are Boats and Car top carriers which exceed the size restrictions for parcel carriers.
  • Records, matches, maintains, and creates receiving tools and documentation to track data and identify the flow of merchandise such as, advance ship notice (ASN), signing for and dating incoming deliveries and outgoing shipments on freight bills, recording PO numbers, carton contents and damage, matching worksheets with packing lists and delivery receipts, maintaining trailer count, log board, and vendor performance files; notifies applicable departments and employees regarding incoming, missing or mismatched POs, misrouted receipts, discrepancies and other exceptions as appropriate.
  • Maintains awareness of activities and issues that could impact daily operations and escalates to Lead or Supervisor as appropriate.
  • Determines how and to what location freight is to be palletized.
  • Schedules and coordinates common carrier pickups and deliveries with Operation Leads (or other employee as assigned), truck unloaders/ loaders, and carrier dispatch representatives to identify delivery volume, appropriate loading dock, and staging area for the receipt of merchandise; directs truck unloaders/ loaders to appropriate dock door.
  • Provides back-up and peak load assistance for drivers, truck unloaders/ loaders, staging area, recycling, merchandise movement as necessary.
  • Researches and monitors the status of missing and misdirected cartons as initiated by Retail e-mail or phone inquires.
  • Provides back up for Operations Leads in their absence.
  • Updates the Replenishment Schedule maintenance screens and truck logs as directed.
  • Provides assistance for traffic flow in the outbound yard.
  • Maintains work area, including assigned dock doors and staging areas to ensure safety, cleanliness, organization, and supply levels; informs Supervisor of any supply needs, system or tool malfunctions.
  • Activates, monitors, updates, and closes daily routes for retail stores.
  • Maintains Inbound Log Sheet while ensuring trailer availability per published replenishment schedule.
