The Shipping Lead is a position designed to help balance the many requirements for small parcel, LTL and dedicated trailer load shipments across 3 distinct business units according to the approved schedules from the planning department. The Lead is to be considered the first line of resolution for non-personnel related issues that arise during the shipping prep activities.
- Monitor and provide constructive feedback regarding the tasks of assigned shipping employees
- Manage the inventory levels of supplies and packaging material and prompt appropriate reorder points to ensure seamless operations
- Determine and communicate optimum task sequencing of complex shipping preparation requirements for all team members
- Spearhead all On-the-Job Training efforts within the shipping discipline, as directed by the department Manager
- Monitor adherence to local safety and quality practices and principles and policies as detailed in the employee handbook for shipping team members
- Identify and escalate any resource or material constraints which could put production schedule at risk
- Serve as a team leader and single point of communication and accountability for shipping related tasks
- Ensure the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of equipment and tools in a clean, secure, and appropriate working condition
- Must be familiar with appropriate industry standards and best practices for shipping and logistics
- Must able to demonstrate commitment to teamwork.
- The Lead must have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the related discipline for the role
- Comfortable using PC equipment and use of MRP systems and tools to transact shipments accurately and promptly
- Must be comfortable giving task-oriented direction to others, while performing hands-on activities.
