The Attorney General’s Office is not a law enforcement agency. This is a law enforcement position working in a legal office as an investigator.


About Special Victims Prosecution


About Human Trafficking


Under limited supervision, investigates criminal prosecution cases as assigned by supervising attorneys and Deputy Attorney General with a focus on Special Victims and Human Trafficking cases. Gathers evidence and assists in organizing and presenting findings.


  • Handles inquiries regarding cases and investigations within the office.
  • Coordinate administrative details of witness interviews, evidence collection, and personal arrangements for required out-of-town travel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising attorneys, Attorney General, Chief Deputy Attorney General, or Deputy Attorney General.
  • Assist prosecutors in trial preparation.
  • Interview potential witnesses and suspects and procure necessary physical, documentary, or other evidence. Document the progress of the investigations. Maintain files and evidence for assigned investigations. Maintain a high level of organization to ensure that investigations are completed.
  • Reviews digital forensics and social media searches related to cases and helps secure materials when necessary.
  • Work as a team member with prosecution unit attorneys to assist in assessing cases and determining what assistance can be provided.

Minimum And Additional Requirements


A high school diploma and 6 years of experience conducting investigations or performing other law enforcement duties. A bachelor's degree or higher may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.


Must have an SC Criminal Justice Academy Class One certification or another state's equivalent certificatio n.


Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.


Additional Requirements


  • Position requires some travel and frequent driver duties.
  • Position may require employee to work evenings and weekends.
  • Position requires up-to-date certification(s).
  • Position may require overnight travel.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Must be well organized and able to work independently.
  • Training and experience in interviewing techniques and experience investigating child-related cases is preferred.
  • General supervision by the supervisor to review schedules, approaches to issues, findings, and written reports.
  • Preference for experience in digital forensics and social media investigations.
  • Must also have sound research and presentation skills, as well as maturity and diplomacy in communicating with others.
  • Because of the maturity and judgment required of the investigator, the employee is expected to make the supervisor aware of any problems, issues, or suggestions relating to duties or assignments.
