The Corporate Human Resources team is seeking a highly motivated HR/Legal Intern to support several key employee policy and legal compliance initiatives. The successful candidate will work closely with HR, General Counsel, and Corporate Communications to develop and/or update corporate workplace policies, execute communication strategies, and provide support to compliance initiatives. This internship is a great opportunity for an undergraduate or graduate student who is interested in human resources management, organizational design, employment law, policy development, and/or corporate communications.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Participate in HR, benefits, and legal compliance audits

  • Recommend changes and/or author new policies, procedures, and/or forms

  • Assist in drafting corporate communications

  • Participate in compliance initiatives, including leading some aspect of a project, providing documentation, and record keeping

  • Assist with background checks, verification of employment requests, unemployment claims, and other HR-related inquiries

  • Conduct research on employment laws and regulations, audit and/or provide summaries to help ensure corporate workplace policies are compliant and comprehensive

    Pay Rate

    The hourly rate is $18.00 for undergraduate students or up to $22.00 for graduate, law, or PhD student

    Required Skills and Qualifications
    • Corporate human resources, compliance, or legal experience preferred
    • Demonstrates a high degree of discretion in regard to sensitive and/or confidential information
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in law, business administration, human resources, organizational development, industrial organization, communications, or related field
    • Strong research, problem-solving, and analytical skills
    • Familiarity with federal employment laws and regulations, including but not limited to, Title VII, ADA, FMLA, and FLSA
    • Familiarity with government contracting requirements and regulations, including but not limited to, FAR and DFARS preferred
    • Excellent organizational skills and high attention to detail
    • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat
    • Must be currently enrolled in at least the second year of undergraduate degree
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Ability to build a plan, prioritize initiatives, and complete both independently and collaboratively
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

    Physical Demands and Working Conditions
    • Must be able to lift 25 pounds unassisted

    • Must be capable of sitting and entering data on a computer keyboard for extended periods of time
    • Must be able to view computer monitor for extended periods of time
    • The work of this position is performed in an environmentally controlled office environment

    • Favorable academic standing, including accumulative GPA between 3.0 and 4.0
