Job Description
The Talent Acquisition department hires qualified candidates to fill positions which contribute to the overall strategic success of Howard University. Hiring staff “for fit” makes significant contributions to Howard University’s overall mission.
BASIC FUNCTION:
This position manages the residential housing assignments and billing functions and provides support to the Central Office for University Housing and Residential Life.
SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY:
Reports to the Director of University Housing and Residence Life.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
This position is responsible for the coordination and management of the university housing assignments process, the communications associated with this process and the adjustments related to the related to in matters related to the Office of Residential Life and Housing.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Coordinates the housing selection and assignments process.
  • This position may require evening and/or weekend hours.
  • Disseminates information, often of a complex nature, to students, prospective students, outside agencies, visitors, parents, etc. that may require explanation and interpretation of established University departmental policies, procedures and directs individuals to sources of additional information.
  • Works with the university housing partners and leadership team to ensure that the housing design and capacity is accurately reflected in the Starrez and Banner databases.
  • Maintains accurate student housing files and records through database systems as well as non-computerized systems.
  • Assists in the creation, development and maintenance of Housing Website.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Assess, manages and troubleshoots any discrepancies or inaccuracies, ensures that housing accommodations and/or special interest group housing allocations are accurately managed and processed.
  • Works closely with the Housing Operations Coordinator related to reassignments, maintenance billings and other billables associated with administrative operations or facility related functions (event space rental, etc.).
  • Ensures that all housing selection and assignments systems are accessible and functional for all internal and external users. Works within multiple systems for accurate housing assignments for various student categories and prepares monthly reporting of this data to Hall directors, Central Office staff and senior leadership within the Division of Student Affairs.
  • Ensures university housing selection and assignments process is in compliance with all local, state and federal requirements including but not limited to ADA, gender neutral, Cleary Act, etc.
  • Corresponds with incoming and current students regarding occupancy status. Monitors, reconciles and updates charges for housing cancellations.
  • Process, track and prepare monthly reports related to the funds received for Housing deposits and other billable functions within the Office of University Housing and Residential Life.
  • Reconciles weekly occupancy report and balances occupancy with Division Reports and works with administration in relation to occupancy status.
