Harlem Hospital Center has been a bedrock of the Harlem community since 1887. The hospital provides a wide range of medical, surgical, diagnostic, therapeutic and family support services to the residents of Central Harlem, West Harlem, Washington Heights and Inwood. Harlem is the largest hospital in the area, capable of treating the most seriously ill. Harlem provides over 90 specialized ambulatory care services, dentistry and oral surgery, behavioral health services, and community substance abuse treatment.

Duties & Responsibilities


Under general supervision, is responsible for the housekeeping activities in a small to moderate size institution or in an assigned unit of a large institution; performs related work.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise employees engaged in such tasks as operating polishing machines and automatic scrubber, snow removal, removal of refuse/recycling materials, the cleanliness standards are being maintained.
  • Promotes a positive and pleasant attitude conducive to the workplace, which enhances and furthers the Mission, Vision and Value Statement.
  • Meet all compliance standards/requirements such as annual physical evaluation/assessment;
  • Makes inspections to determine if cleanliness standards are being maintained.
  • Is responsible for maintaining records; prepares reports.
  • Multi-Star Training; Fire Drill Preparation, etc.
  • Directs and administers the housekeeping program to maintain the hospital premises in a clean and Orderly fashion.
  • Train subordinate personnel. Evaluate effectiveness of housekeeping program.

Minimum Qualifications


1. Completion of the eighth grade plus two years of full-time, paid experience in the performance of housekeeping activities for a large organization such as a hospital, hotel, office or residential building, one year of which must have been in the supervision of subordinates engaged in a variety of such activities; or,
2. A satisfactory equivalent. However, all candidates must have one year of supervisory experience as described above.
