The Macaulay Honors College program includes generous financial support for each student, including a full-tuition merit scholarship and an Opportunities Fund grant. In addition, the Honors College offers unique interdisciplinary seminars focusing on New York City, training in instructional technology, dedicated mentors and advisors, prominent visiting professors, internships, study abroad experiences, and a Cultural Passport that provides entry to the vast cultural resources of New York City.
Macaulay operates in partnership with eight CUNY campuses: Baruch, Brooklyn, City, Hunter, John Jay, Lehman, Queens, and Staten Island; graduates are awarded a degree jointly conferred by Macaulay and their home campus. Currently, Macaulay Honors College has approximately 2,032 Macaulay Scholars enrolled on the eight campuses. The Honors Advisor position is located at Baruch College whose mission is to provide an inclusive and transformational education in the arts and sciences, business, and public and international affairs fields. The Macaulay Honors Program is one of four honors programs housed within the Baruch College Honors Program, which serves the mission of CUNY by offering students access to high-impact learning opportunities. The program emphasizes five key experiences: academic engagement; leadership and service; global experiences; arts and cultural engagement; and research and creative inquiry. Macaulay Scholars at Baruch seek guidance from their Honors Advisor in discovering and engaging their identities, values, and interests in pursuit of opportunities to apply their passions and talents within the college and beyond. The primary responsibility of the Honors Advisor is to advise and mentor honors students to maximize their chances of successful completion of a four-year baccalaureate degree. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Student Services at Macaulay Honors College, with an additional reporting responsibility to the Macaulay Director at Baruch College, the Honors Advisor will encourage honors students to develop the intellectual curiosity, civic engagement, and meritorious conduct expected of all Honors students. Advisors are important resources to honors students, not only during their first two years in college but also as they move into their majors and begin to prepare for graduate and professional schools or other career objectives. The duties and responsibilities of the position will include but are not limited to the following:
  • Consults with faculty to assist students undertaking independent study and study abroad opportunities;
  • Assists students with graduate school and fellowship applications and post-baccalaureate job searches;
  • Establishes and maintains student advisement files; prepares activity reports and analyses

  • Performs other duties as assigned. Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work in the office. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. **QUALIFICATIONS** Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required. A preferred candidate should have:
  • Participates in Macaulay Honors activities on the campuses and centrally as well as in local and national professional development opportunities;
  • May provide career and transfer services and/or specialized program counseling
  • Advises students on selecting a major and finding major advisors and faculty mentors;
  • Experience with student information and automated degree audit systems.
  • Offers comprehensive advisement to full-time and part-time students
  • Works with other academic affairs staff as well as enrollment and student affairs to assist students to declare majors and select appropriate courses
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Acts as an instructor and participates in other activities that help enrich the writing, academic skills, or pre-professional skills of Macaulay students;
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are essential.
  • Advises students on course selection each semester and monitor progress toward degree;
  • Acts as liaison (for both the student and the college Honors program) to campus student affairs and support services, such as Career Services, Counseling Services, Tutoring Center, Registrar, Bursar, and Financial Aid;
  • Two (2) years of relevant experience with high achieving or honors students, preferably in a diverse, urban institution of higher education.
  • Advises students about required co-curricular activities including internships, study abroad, and community service; advises on other activities involving student organizations and events;
  • Works closely with Honors Advisors on the other campuses as well as with Macaulay central staff to support student success;
  • May supervise junior advising and/or clerical staff
  • Participates in regular reviews of all honors students in terms of academic performance and community engagement; works with Honors Director to identify and retain at-risk students;
  • Familiarity with best practices in academic advisement.
  • Master's degree in student counseling, guidance, or a related discipline or advanced academic degree and counseling experience.
  • Facilitates workshops; assists with other department activities such as course scheduling
  • Provides information to students regarding student support services, college policies and program procedures and guidelines
  • Leads first-year student seminars and participates in other activities that help provide a firm transition for honors students into college roles and expectations;
  • Oversees peer-mentoring or buddy systems and ambassador programs;
  • Develops academic plans and performs graduation audits
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse undergraduate student population.
  • May supervise extramural activities, such as internships and community service; may assist with accreditation efforts as needed
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including some evening and weekend hours. **CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW** Provides expert and/or specialized academic counseling a diverse student population.
  • Monitors students' performances and takes appropriate action if necessary; resolves students' problems regarding curricular requirements
  • Reviews and approves student applications to utilize the Opportunities Fund;
