I. Position Description The Home Health Aid/CNA provides care to the Client by following the orders of the patient’s physician and/or nurse. This position also involves helping the client with the normal activities of living. CNAs /HHAs/GNAs may provide instruction and psychological support to their patients. They may advise families and patients on such things as nutrition, cleanliness, and household tasks
II. Performance Responsibilities

• Helps the client to maintain good personal hygiene
• Toileting including:

Bedpan routines Routines associated with the achievement or maintenance of continence Incontinence care - Movement to and from the bathroom

• Shopping for groceries
• Preparing a light meal
• Attendance at required in-service training programs
• Assist in eating, nutritional planning, and preparing meals including prescribed special diets
• Mobility, including transferring from a bed, chair, or other structure and moving about indoors or outdoors.
• Reading of specific items
• Medication reminders
• Performing light chores
• Moving, turning, and positioning the body while in bed or in a wheelchair
• Traveling beyond walking distance and
• Completing grooming, including oral and denture care, shaving, and care of skin, nails, and hair
• Dressing and changing clothes and

III. Minimum Qualifications:

• Ability to read and write consistent with job requirements
• Satisfactory performance on an on-site competency evaluation and skills assessment
• Has reliable means of transportation
• Has the emotional and mental maturity necessary for establishing and maintaining a good work relationship with the client, family members, and Agency personnel
• Completion of basic Home Health Aid training program consistent with State requirements
• CPR

IV. Education/Experience

• Completion of one year’s employment as a nurse’s aid in a hospital or health-related setting
• High School Diploma or GED

V. License/Certification

• Maryland State Board of Nursing CNA or GNA certification

VI. Physical/Health Requirements:

• Current Tuberculosis Screening
• Ability to lift and perform duties that require power grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation
• Ability to walk, bend, squat, climb, kneel, or twist when assisting clients, handling supplies or equipment.
