Munson Healthcare has the most comprehensive home health program in Northern Michigan. We have built our reputation for excellence by providing kind, attentive, and respectful in-home care for more than 50 years. We are looking for team members who will continue our tradition of providing kind and respectful care for our patients in their homes.
Munson Healthcare’s Home Medical Equipment staff helps connect our patients with all types of medical equipment and supplies including wheelchairs, oxygen, or diabetic testing supplies. Our staff is responsible for providing prompt and courteous delivery service and making sure the patients are safe and comfortable by offering instructions on the proper use of prescribed equipment. Retail stores are open to the public in Cadillac, Gaylord, Manistee, and in Traverse City.
Entry Requirements
  • High school diploma required. Additional college level courses preferred.
  • A minimum of three years related office or durable medical equipment experience required, preferably in the health care field.
  • Possesses current Michigan motor vehicle license and an insured vehicle that can be used to complete required errands in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to bend, twist, reach, stoop, access areas of office environment.
  • Meets MHH established requirements for proof of health status. Physically able to lift 35 pounds. Demonstrates ability utilize good body mechanics or lifting techniques to avoid manipulating more than 35 pounds.
  • Demonstrates basic mathematical and computational skills.
  • Meets Home Health and Medicare standards as evidenced by criminal background check and fingerprinting.
  • Advanced keyboarding skills required. Proven ability to learn one or more unique software applications such as Brightree.
  • Demonstrates good writing skills with competency in composition and formatting of materials, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Possesses the ability to prepare written communications and reports from general directions with minimal supervision.
ORGANIZATION
This position exists within Munson Home Health and works cooperatively within a team environment to support team goals.
Reports directly to the HME Office Supervisor.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision while handling multiple tasks with numerous interruptions.
  • Exercising a high degree of control over confidential medical information
  • Reviews medical documents for appropriate reimbursement criteria
  • Embraces and supports the Performance Improvement philosophy of Munson Home Health.
  • Follow up on all verification issues and communicate to proper departments in a timely manner.
  • Input insurance information in the appropriate HME system
  • Required to train new employees and in-service current employees on changing health insurance requirements
  • Interaction with customers is expected to be friendly, appropriate and accurate. As the first line of communication with the public and outside callers, this individual must create a professional image through outstanding telephone courtesy, pleasantness, the ability to keep their composure and the use of judgment and tact in dealing with others.
  • Employees with e-mail are required to maintain proficiency in the basic functions of the program and are also required to regularly check email and keep calendars up to date.
  • Input, update insurance information
  • Insurance Verification responsibilities include:
  • Supports the Mission, Vision, and Values of Munson Home Health.
  • Promotes personal and patient safety.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Verify eligibility to include identifying primary and secondary insurance, obtain claim numbers as necessary
  • Independently responsible for managing/coordinating activities for one or more major processes or functions. Examples include the following:
  • Organizing/prioritizing work to meet deadlines
  • Identifies, obtains and documents all pre-authorizations as appropriate
  • Coordinates deliveries
  • Obtains verbal/written orders
  • Accurate and complete HME order intake from all referral sources
  • Required to rotate on-call
  • Other duties as assigned
