Apex Dermatology & Skin Surgery Center is a rapidly growing skincare facility that empowers employees to deliver exceptional patient experiences. We are currently looking for a talented candidate for the role of Histotechnician/Histotechnologist for our newly built private dermatology lab opening soon in Mayfield Heights, Ohio

Essential Responsibilities

Histotechnician/Histotechnologist will perform the various tasks required for receiving, processing, and preparing patient tissue specimens for microscopic examination and analysis by the Pathologist. Under the supervision of the pathology supervisor, performs all technical histology laboratory’s functions which are included but not limited to accessioning, grossing (skin only), tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, routine H&E staining, special stains, immunohistochemistry, as well as other duties in the area.

• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Exercises independent judgment in dealing with procedural and technical problems.
• Accessions the specimen using our LIS system. Verifying that the specimen containers, requisitions, and part types all match BEFORE accessioning.
• Assists pathologist and other lab personnel.
• Answers phones in a professional and helpful manner.
• Properly embeds tissue.
• Maintains strictest confidentiality.
• Complies with all State, Federal, professional regulations as well as company and departmental rules, polices, and procedural manuals.
• Adherence to CAP, CLIA, State Regulations, HIPAA, Safety and OSHA Regulations.
• Keeps current with changes in laboratory procedures.
• Slide quality is a high priority for Apex Dermatology and Skin Surgery Center.
• Files, retrieves, and distributes blocks, slides, and pathology reports.
• Operates, cleans, and sterilizes laboratory glassware, instruments, and workstation.
• Providing our clients the most efficient, cost-effective, and timely turn-around we can provide.
• Examines slides and/or blocks to ensure tissue preparation is meeting laboratory requirements.
• Performs special stains and Immunohistochemistry using approved protocols and controls.
• Using proper grossing techniques when dissecting specimens.
• Daily cleans and maintains laboratory equipment.

Requirements

Able to multitask, work well with others, knowledge of computers and operation of general laboratory.

• Completion of a NAACLS accredited histotechnology program or an Associate degree plus one year full time experience in histopathology within the last three years under the supervision of a pathologist
• Required ASCP certification as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL).
