Job Title: Historical Accuracy Research Intern


Reports To: Director of Media and CEO

The Historical Accuracy Research Intern contributes to ONC’s mission of providing nonpartisan news, opinions, and policy solutions by ensuring the historical accuracy of all written content, scripts and dialogue across all ONC departments, platforms and book projects. The Historical Accuracy Research Intern is responsible for conducting research and analysis to ensure the truth and accuracy of historical facts and figures pertaining to Uncle Sam scripts, book projects and other written content, scripts and dialogue for video and podcast segments as necessary. Under the direction of the CEO, this intern will work closely with the Editorial Team and Script Writing/Creative Writing Team while also working independently. At our organization, we foster an environment that empowers our interns to embrace leadership qualities and continuously cultivate personal growth. We strongly believe in their potential to excel not only in their current roles but also within our organization as a whole. With this in mind, there is an opportunity for this intern to advance into a leadership position within ONC.


This position is remote, with work primarily conducted over Zoom and Slack, so applicants must be comfortable coordinating in a remote environment and are expected to maintain a high level of communication. This intern must commit to at least the end of the Fall semester (December 16th, 2023). However, many people choose to extend their internship past the amount of time they initially committed to, provided their performance meets the required standards.

Compensation: This is not a paid position.


Responsibilities:

  • Use research and analysis of content to give context to scripts and book projects
  • Evaluate primary sources for credibility and historical legitimacy
  • Collaborate closely with CEO and various Team Leads to inform historical content of written materials related to Uncle Sam segments, book projects, podcast segments and video production projects
  • Conduct research to verify historical data and anecdotes used in Uncle Sam project materials, book projects and any other ONC content
  • Analyze and fact-check all written materials for historical accuracy
  • Coordinate with Editorial Team Lead and various Team Leads from the Media department and corresponding team members to ensure efficient and accurate editing timelines and deliverables


Requirements: The Historical Accuracy Research Intern should have the following skills, education, and experience:

  • Ability to analyze and assess usefulness and reliability of historical data in relation to writing projects
  • Interest in or majoring in History, Political Science, Social Science or Humanities
  • Ability to think critically about History and historical accounts
  • Respect for and reliance on historical evidence and ability to utilize such knowledge to enhance writing projects
  • Must be authorized to intern in the U.S.
  • Ability to attend the weekly Organization-Wide meetings
  • Ability to work remotely and on their own schedule in order to make deadlines
  • Responsive, consistent, and effective communicator, even during conflict
  • Ability to attend weekly Media meetings
