Job Description

JOB TITLE: Histology Technician

Reports to: Practice Administrator

Location: Orland Park, IL

Schedule: 30 hours per week with the potential to ramp up to 40


Responsibilities:

  • Log in all Pathology reports, accession and pull charts for surgeon review.
  • Performs Mohs micrographic frozen tissue slide preparation.
  • Maintain order in laboratory and compliance to safety regulations.
  • Log in all incoming consultation slides and prepares slides for surgeon.
  • Order laboratory supplies and appropriately stores supplies.
  • File slides and blocks.
  • Section tissue; stain slides, coverslip and label slides.
  • Opens laboratory for daily operation, checks temperatures, all equipment, machines and document.
  • Any additional duties as determined and assigned by either the laboratory supervisor or medical director
  • Receives tissue specimens and enters into log book.
  • Appropriately dispose of biohazardous waste.
  • Process tissue for sectioning.


Qualifications:

  • A high degree of organization and responsiveness.
  • Effective communication and relationship building with vendors and staff providing excellent customer service to all stakeholders.
  • 1+ years of healthcare practice experience preferred.
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree of Science
