Celligent Diagnostics is currently looking for a HT/HTL certified Histology Technician able to work 3rd shift (11pm - 7:30am) Sunday night-Friday morning.
OVERVIEW:
This is a specialized position that requires a wide range of experience in tissue processing, sectioning, manual special stains and immunohistochemistry. 30% of this histology technician position involves all aspects of IHC (e.g. pulling correct blocks, cutting onto control slides, printing labels accurately, starting IHC instrumentation, removing IHC slides and QAing IHC). The other 70% of this position will involve cutting, special stains and embedding tissue with a high degree accuracy, good quality and good speed.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Independently identifies and resolves problems, equipment and specimen integrity identification
- Prepares tissues specimens for microscopic examinations and handles the more complex jobs involving immunohistochemistry for clinical patient diagnosis; maintains quality controls.
- Participates in weekend and holiday schedules as staffing requirements dictate. Remains flexible and works a share of overtime or different shifts if necessary during staffing shortages or emergencies.
- Examines slides under microscope to ensure tissue preparation meets laboratory requirements.
- Able to cut, embed and stain histology specimens at an appropriate rate with minimal errors.
- Handles clinical and patient concerns in a confidential manner employing integrity and discretion.
- Answers questions and resolves problems pertaining to test requisitions.
- Reviews quality control and determines the acceptability of testing patient results, and instrument function by applying established policies and procedures.
- Maintains laboratory supplies and equipment; participates in the formulation and revision of departmental policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Uses independent judgment, decision-making skills and correction action in evaluating testing procedures, patient results and specimen integrity.
- Maintenance of departmental instrumentation including coverslippers, cassette labelers, processors, microtomes, and stainers. Complete appropriate documentation according to procedure in Histology area. Ensure that equipment defects and malfunctions are reported and repaired.
- Oversees quality assurance activities and makes recommendations for improvement.
- Maintains records of samples including sample accessioning and paraffin block and slide files.
- Follows specimen handling and processing procedures.
EDUCATION AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- HT/HTL certification with three years of experience required.
- Solid computer skills.
- Ability to interact in a professional manner with individuals at all levels.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
