At UM Capital Region Health, we’re about to changeUP everything with the opening of our new hospital in Spring 2021!


Located in Largo in the heart of Prince George’s County, our new state-of-the-art regional medical center (UM Capital Region Medical Center) will provide improved access to primary and ambulatory care services, and serve as a tertiary care center for critically ill patients. In addition, our new space will allow us to expand our offerings as a community partner to help improve the health status of Prince George’s County residents.



Under close supervision, the HIM Technician prepares, scans, and verifies all documents scanned in the electronic medical record. The position reviews, compiles, indexes and categorizes documents to ensure accuracy and route to correct patient account and folder within the electronic medical record to include the retrieval and reconciliation of all discharged patients records, accounts, et. al.


Duties:


Preps documents includes but not limited to alphabetizing, putting documents in numerical order and/or date order, removing staples, repair forms as needed and etc.


Identifies different document types making sure all documents are barcoded accurately to route to specific folder within EMR.


Confirms the patient name, medical record number, and account number are on every page in the chart, front and back.


Reviews images to determine the need to delete, add or enhance images for clarity.


Completes discharge processing- retrieval of records from all units and verifies receipt of all inpatient and outpatient discharged records; follow up on missing records to ensure they are received in a timely manner according to departmental procedures.


Updates required shared drive spreadsheets according to department standards.


Prepares paper documents for proper storage and easy retrieval.


Participates in training programs to facilitate the proper use and implementation of quality systems and processes.


Performs related work as assigned.


Qualifications


Prefers Accredited/Registered Health Information Technician or Administrator (RHIT/RHIA) or other American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) certifications will be considered.


AA degree in Health Information Technology or related field; or in lieu of degree, significant acute care inpatient and or outpatient health information management. Experience will be considered equivalent to 4 or more years of acute care EMR experience.


One (1) year experience with preparation of medical records, monitoring of scanned documents assuring accuracy and timely completion of electronic medical records required.


Two (2) Years’ Experience In Electronic Document Imaging Required.


Knowledge of medical record format and content for all patient record required.
