Job Description
We are seeking a High School Intervention Coach & Coordinator . This position is housed within the Department of Mental Health and is to support a developmental research study to develop and test Well Connected: A School Community Wellness Program being conducted in public high schools. Well Connected provides schools with the tools they need to create a safe and supportive school environment that facilitates student learning and growth. It includes school-level and teacher-focused supports for implementation of a 2-year scope and sequence of 48 lessons for 9th and 10th graders. Lessons focus on social emotional learning, community building, and wellness.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Provide coaching and technical assistance to 9th and 10th grade teachers in 2 high schools (study has 4 high schools total) through at least the end of the 2023-24 school year.
Coordinate schedules with schools to ensure regular school visits (e.g., 3-5 days per week) to accomplish the goals of the study.
Engage in classroom observations of implementation (with training from the research team).
Support school teams/leadership to ensure that lessons can be implemented.
Coordinate with other school-based teams and initiatives that support implementation (e.g., student mentor programs) or have relevant goals (e.g., school climate initiatives)
Log coaching activities for research purposes.
Provide research team with feedback on needed adaptations and improvements to the intervention content.
Problem solve barriers faced with implementation.
Provide programmatic development supports, when applicable (e.g., adapting google slides, ensure content is accessible on the program website).
Assist with or lead research coordination tasks, including teacher recruitment and data collection activities.
Engage in regular meetings and supervision from the lead researcher, Dr. Elise Pas.
Provide general administrative support, including project correspondence to schools, ordering needed supplies, and submitting personal mileage for travel to schools
Training & Background Check Requirements once hired
Required IRB training in basic human subject research and good clinical practice.
Training in the Well Connected intervention and coaching approach (including problem solving, classroom observations, and providing effective feedback and shared goal setting and action planning with teachers).
Background check conducted by the partnering school district.
Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Effective communication to build partnership and relationships with school personnel and students.
Ability to adapt to the needs of a diverse and high-paced research environment quickly and comfortably.
Open communication and the ability to take direction and respond positively to feedback.
Good oral and written communication and reading comprehension skills.
Comfort using technology (e.g., computers, tablets, copiers, printers) and Office programs.
Proficiency with or willingness to learn Google drive and website skills.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
Three years related experience.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience coaching teachers or other school personnel.
Leadership roles focused on adult skill development.
Master's degree.
