Job Description
Position Title: District Herbicide Qualified Applicator
Department: District Maintenance
Supervisor: District Maintenance Grounds Supervisor
Term of Employment: 12 Month
Salary Classification: 20
Job Summary: Supervise the herbicide program throughout PUSD11, maintain current licensure and certification, keeping the district in compliance with state mandates.
Essential Functions: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include, but are not limited to, the following tasks, duties, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by incumbents in this class.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES generally include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
  • Training applicators in continuing education and maintains records
  • Skill in safely mixing and applying herbicides in compliance with the Arizona Dept. of Agriculture regulations.
  • Responsible for chemical safety storage
  • Maintains equipment
  • Supervises Herbicide applicators
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
  • Applies or assists in the application of herbicide
Knowledge And Skills
  • Knowledge of applicable grants management.
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, policies and Arizona Dept. of Agriculture reporting procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable Peoria Unified School District and departmental policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License.
  • Must possess Applicator Certification for Ornamental & Turf and Right-of-Way.
  • Must possess Qualified Applicator Certification for Ornamental & Turf and Right-of-Way.
Other Requirements
  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint and background check.
  • May be required to work outside normal working hours.
  • May be required to lift and/or carry heavy, bulky supplies, equipment, tools, parts and materials weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • May be required to perform services while standing, stooping, bending, crawling or in trenches.
  • May be exposed to dangerous machinery, potential physical harm, extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals, fumes and infectious diseases.
  • May be required to work outside normal working hours.
  • May be required to travel to perform work functions.
