Position Title: Health Program Coordinator


Location: Hybrid – Onsite at Springfield, IL


Position End Date: 2/5/2024


Salary: $70,000 plus benefits


Overview: 


The CDC Foundation is seeking a Health Program Coordinator to assist the Tuberculosis (TB) Program staff and provide technical consultations to local health departments.


Qualifications: 


  • Possesses and maintain a valid, current Driver’s License, automobile insurance, and reliable private transport
  • Willing and able to travel to LHDs for onsite technical support
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Travel up to 10% of the time
  • Requires one year of professional experience in a health education or investigation program in the public or private sector
  • Passionate and solution oriented
  • Bachelor’s or four years of college equivalent in health education, physical and biological sciences or social sciences
  • Experience with the Illinois National Electronic Disease Surveillance System would be an advantage
  • Experience with computer applications, including Microsoft Office suite
  • Working knowledge of prevention and control of infectious diseases and ability to investigate TB cases


Responsibilities:   


  • Serves as backstop in the receipt of orders, inventory and shipment of TB medication
  • Coordination and organization of TB Program staff meetings and activities. Works with the TB specialists/Program Manager to conduct and participate in updating the TB 101 module, regular training with state and regional staff and regional meetings
  • Acts as a liaison to TB Control and Prevention stakeholders. Coordination of activities for TB Program to crosscut participation with IDPH partners, stakeholders, and work groups
  • Assists with the TB Medical Assistance Program (TB-MAP); keeps track of TB-MAP funding, reviews and approves TB medication requests, orders and provides TB medication to local TB control authorities
  • Provides technical consultation to local health department personnel, private health care providers and private physicians about procedures and practices for reporting TB cases to appropriate health authorities
  • Reviews TB lab reports. Ensures all TB related reports are forwarded to local TB authorities and provides input on measures to improve TB surveillance in Illinois
  • Assists in the analysis of TB reporting data for accuracy, timeliness, and completeness based on the Report of Verified Cases of Tuberculosis (RVCT) guidelines from the CDC
  • Assists in preparing and submitting activity reports, evaluation plans, and reports of epidemiological data for further recommendations and issuance of disease control measures
  • Works with the Public Health Program Specialist to ensure that reporting of the electronic disease notification (EDN) system and interjurisdictional notifications (IJN) are completed ensuring data accuracy, timeliness, and completeness. Follow up information reported back to CDC
  • Follows through with the Local health Departments (LHD) on reporting of LTBI in the state electronic reporting tool across the targeted testing projects
  • Conducts information dissemination activities during partner events, conferences, and meetings. Assists in planning, coordinating, logistics, and implementing TB education and training events and activities

This role is involved in a dynamic public health program. As such, roles and responsibilities are subject to change as situations evolve. Roles and responsibilities listed above may be expanded upon or updated to match priorities and needs, once written approval is received by both the CDC Foundation and Illinois in order to best support the Illinois Department of Public Health in their public health programming.


This position is currently a hybrid position. CDC Foundation retains the right to make adjustments to this as required.  


This position requires the operation of a motor vehicle as a component of the job responsibilities and duties. In adherence with CDC Foundation’s Driver Safety Motor Vehicle Policy (“Policy”), offers for employment for this position require the Applicant to provide authorization to the CDC Foundation to conduct a Motor Vehicle Record (“MVR”) review both pre-employment and also annually post-employment while in this position. Additionally, if an offer of employment is accepted, employees in these positions must possess and maintain a valid driver's license in their state of residence, self-report motor vehicle violations/convictions, and provide proof of acceptable insurance coverage with mandatory minimum coverages as set forth within the Driver Safety Motor Vehicle policy.
