Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to become the Marketing & Communications Director for the Rosslyn Business Improvement District (BID) serving the business tenants, employees, retailers and residents of the 17-block district of Rosslyn in the heart of Arlington, VA. Our small and dynamic team is dedicated to producing strategic programming and initiatives at the highest levels of creativity to consistently enhance the neighborhood and foster community engagement in Rosslyn. With a long-standing reputation for excellence, the Rosslyn BID is poised to create an even more dynamic, innovative downtown district and continue our leadership in the field of place management. This position reports to the President and will lead marketing and communication activities across the organization, supporting both internal and external clients. The Director is responsible for enhancing, promoting, and protecting the organization's brand, using creative marketing strategies to drive positive awareness and attract interest in Rosslyn. The position oversees multiple vendors and a team of two in managing a wide variety of activities and channels, including marketing, PR, digital, web, marketing collateral, and social media.

We are looking for an innovative and forward-thinking leader who will use a variety of audience-appropriate strategies, tools, and tactics to reach and engage our multiple and diverse stakeholders. The scope of this position is broad, requiring strategic thinking, strong initiative, and outstanding project management skills. This position has decision-making and budgetary authority and requires leadership abilities, sound judgment, creative writing, and excellent communication skills.

This Hybrid role is 3 days of your choosing out of the Rosslyn, VA office and 2 days remote.


Responsibilities

  • Ensure consistent articulation of the organization’s desired image, position, and key messages across the organization and externally to all audiences
  • Collaborate with President and VP on sponsorship and partnership strategies, and manage relationships through execution
  • Seek out and prioritize speaking opportunities, and prepare talking points, speeches, presentations, and other supporting material as needed
  • Oversee and work with PR contractor who is actively engaging, cultivating, and managing press relationships to ensure coverage of RBIC programs, announcements, resident and business activities, and other BID and stakeholder projects
  • Manage graphic and video asset production with designer and vendors to achieve cohesive, consistent and on-brand creative assets
  • Research, pursue, and manage large-scale advertising opportunities to promote events, campaigns, and neighborhood happenings. Collaborate with Associate Marketing Manager to build robust advertising plans
  • Through collaboration with other program leads, ensure strong relationships, and maintain proactive communications with key external stakeholder groups, Rosslyn businesses and workers, residents, and retailers; maintain contacts and activities in Salesforce database
  • Help develop appropriate materials, messaging, and communications support for programs and products in internal departments to ensure that key messages and brand are integrated across the organization
  • Serve as retail engagement lead by forming relationships with new retailers, keeping existing and new retailers apprised of RBID services, and offering collaboration opportunities and promotional support packages
  • Manage editorial direction, design, and production of key organizational publications, including but not limited to annual reports, fiscal year work plans, and county documents
  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of the communications functions including budgeting, planning, management of two full-time staff, and development and management of relationships and projects with associated vendors and contractors
  • Conduct market research, including customer satisfaction surveys, focus groups, and marketing analytics to measure success, identify areas of need, and guide future decision making
  • Develop strategic, multi-channel monthly/quarterly/seasonal marketing plans to promote RBID events, retailers, developments, and businesses, with a focus on reaching new audiences and fostering community engagement
  • Manage RBID messaging, positioning, and brand, and oversee development of all RBID print and digital communications including marketing collateral, electronic communications, website, and social media


Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate with staff at all levels, to interact with external partners and to represent the organization to the public
  • Excellent organizational skills, including strong attention to detail, the ability to conduct and coordinate multiple tasks under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Fluent in using an array of marketing tools, tactics, and channels, including social media, blogs, graphic design programs, website administrator tools, CRMs, Google Analytics, and email marketing services
  • Superb writing, editing and verbal communications skills
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or marketing, plus 5-7 years of experience working in a marketing or communications role
