About The Opportunity


Qualifications:


Candidates should hold a master's degree (or equivalent work experience) and have a track record of strong academic and professional performance. Candidates must possess a minimum of 3 to 5 years professional experience, characterized by increasing levels of responsibility, preferably in an academic or student affairs/student services environment or in HR/ corporate recruiting/ or related area; Experience in a service or leadership role such as an academic advisor/counselor/ coach/ human resources/client or customer service professional or similar capacity preferred. The successful candidate will have a passion for educating and supporting students in a higher education environment, demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of students (particularly adult learners, international students, and online learners) and knowledge of professional development and career advising practice. Candidates will serve students studying in locations throughout the world studying primarily Online.


Required Attributes


The successful candidate will have/be:


  • The ability to discern appropriate level of communication with multiple audiences and maintain confidentiality around complex and sensitive issues to be in compliance with applicable ADA, FERPA, SEVIS, and other applicable state, federal, University, and College of Professional Studies guidelines
  • Creative in coming up with ideas to improve service to students
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced work environment, with demonstrated ability and comfort to efficaciously handle multiple tasks and projects
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs and concerns of a diverse student population;
  • Detail oriented and organized
  • Flexible in work assignments and work hours to include some evenings and weekends.
  • Experience working with adult learners, international students, and online students
  • Comfortable using multiple mediums to communicate, esp. in the online environment
  • Able to work collaboratively and independently in a rapidly changing environment
  • Student-centered and have a strong sense of responsibility for student success
  • Initiative to exercise sharp critical thinking skills and sound judgment to problem solve independently within organization guidelines and policies
  • Passion for educating and supporting students | Knowledge of professional development and career advising practices
  • Strong prioritization, time management, and follow-through skills
  • Current and stay abreast of research in the field of academic and student affairs
  • Proficient in the use Microsoft Office Suite tools products
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing and presentation skills


Desired Attributes: It is highly desirable for the candidate to have:


  • Have experience with Salesforce (Customer Relation Management system) and Banner mainframe database system Interest in working with students to navigate and understand their aspirations
  • Experience in working with international and adult learners and compliance regulations in an academic advising, academic support context
  • Have strong technological skills and experience using various software, programs, and tools;


Job Duties


40% Academic and Student Support


Actively manage a caseload of students from point of admission through program completion. Responsibilities include:


  • Communicate regularly with students through various mediums to provide guidance and support in areas related to academics, career, and experiential education
  • Respond to student inquiries from point of contact to resolution; follow up on referral
  • Monitor student progress through adherence to the established communication and contact plan
  • Monitor a large and complex population of professional adult learners to ensure that they remain in compliance. This includes ongoing academic advising, providing information about compliance guidelines, monitoring schedules, reporting outcomes and maintaining a close partnership with colleagues in the Graduate School of Education and other key stakeholders.
  • Engage in effective practices in academic advising.
  • Connect with students using multiple modalities and in ways tailored to their preferences for communication
  • Liaise between the student and the University community working collegially with other offices and departments to ensure student service functions are performed in an efficient and consistent manner
  • Make appropriate referrals to on campus and off campus services as appropriate to student need
  • Advocate for students while enforcing Institutional policies and regulations
  • Track students who become academically inactive; reach out to these students to encourage resumption of studies


15% Assessment and Data


  • Maintain up-to-date notes and record keeping of each student meeting including tracking of student academic progress and outcomes using the College CRM system
  • Assess, collect and report student data as they pertain to student persistence, retention and satisfaction
  • Participate in unit or College assessment efforts, including the development of benchmarks for progress
  • Maintain consistency and compliance within ADA, FERPA, SEVIS, and other state, federal, University and College of Professional Studies guidelines


30% Facilitates the design of individual educational and career plans for students by drafting individual course plans for all students when requested as well as updating important course sequencing documents with program changes and updates each Sumer, Fall and Winter admit term. This is done for both EdD (Stage Model and Dissertation in Practice Model Students).


  • Fielding thesis/dissertation reassignment requests (Roughly 100 per year)
  • Communicating to students about Residency Requirements and policy requirements related to dissertation/thesis.
  • Assisting with hooding ceremony preparation (ceremony program, ceremony marching order)
  • Schedule defenses and create NU Approval Records for EdD students who are completing thesis/dissertation, make sure each defense is made available to students on a shared calendar, then collecting and getting those NU Approval Records signed by the committee, the associate dean, and the dean of CPS each term (Roughly 250 a year).
  • Maintain, design, and update student information portals, such as the EdD Student Resource Centers on Blackboard, SharePoint, and Canvas.
  • Assists with tracking student progress in terms of dissertation/thesis.


15% Program development


  • Stay abreast of research and effective practices in academic and student affairs to propose ideas to better serve students
  • Design and deliver programs to support the unique needs of students in caseload, including workshops, webinars, etc. that enhance and add value to the student experience in areas related to student academic and career success.
  • Participate in and contribute to the content and delivery of new student orientation.
  • Participate as an active member of professional associations related to academic advising and career services.
