Job Description
Rhode Island FC, a team for all Rhode Island, is the only independent men's professional team in the state. It is led under co-founders Brett Johnson and former MLS and USMNT player Michael Parkhurst, a Rhode Island native. The club will begin play in 2024. To learn more, visit rhodeislandfc.com.
We are seeking a highly motivated, outgoing, organized and energetic individual to join our team as the Grassroots Marketing & Community Relations Manager, i.e., our Fan Development Captain. This role will play a pivotal part for our team, overseeing all grassroots and community programming. The Captain will be responsible for developing and implementing innovative grassroots marketing strategies to positively impact the community and grow RIFC’s fanbase and brand presence throughout Rhode Island.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to identify opportunities for ticket sales and sponsorship activation within the community. Work with ticketing department to leverage community-based activations to drive ticket sales.
  • Act as the team’s liaison with local schools, colleges and youth soccer clubs, developing partnerships and implementing outreach programs to promote the sport and RIFC. Integrate soccer tournaments/events into overall community events calendar.
  • Work closely with the marketing team to create compelling content for social media platforms, website and other communication channels to highlight community involvement initiatives.
  • Handle all in-kind charitable donation requests.
  • Lead the identification, outreach and relationship-building with key local organizations, businesses, community leaders, nonprofit organizations and fan groups to help create multicultural awareness and excitement for RIFC throughout the state.
  • Manage all aspects of club activation at community events, e.g., schedule staff/volunteers, manage budget, coordinate “event in a box” materials and experience etc.
  • Hire, train and manage Street Team members to help with community events.
  • Research and make recommendations for calendar of community events where RIFC should have a presence.
  • Track and analyze the success of grassroots marketing initiatives, providing regular reports and recommendations for improvements.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • NOTE: This position requires a non-traditional schedule, including working on evenings and weekends.
  • Spanish or Portuguese fluency preferred.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented and skilled in project management, working on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proven experience (3+ years) in grassroots marketing, community outreach/events, or a similar role, preferably within the professional sports industry.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and social media.
  • Has an understanding of database management tools.
  • Passion for soccer and a genuine interest in promoting the sport within the community.
  • Strong understanding of the local community and its demographics, with the ability to develop targeted marketing campaigns.
  • Must be able to set up community promotional activations, which often requires carrying moderate-sized materials or boxes; as such, employee must be able to work in outdoor conditions and lift and carry up to forty (40) pounds.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in communications, sports management, marketing or similar field
