Job Description

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Experience and working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, including: Photoshop, Illustrator, and inDesign
  • Strong communication skills
  • Pursuit or completion of a bachelor’s degree
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, using initiative to overcome obstacles and complete tasks within allotted timeframes
  • Excellent customer service, positive and proactive attitude, and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of image and video attributes, such as: file formats, resolution, and color modes
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to think creatively

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with basic video camera operation
  • Knowledge of still photography cameras and equipment
  • Familiarity with Adobe Premiere video editing software

Overview:

UMF’s creative team supports the organization and its affiliates by producing high-quality publications, event collateral, electronic content, and videos that help raise money for the University and elevate its profile.

Responsibilities/Duties

The UMF creative team is seeking a self-motivated and detail-oriented student intern to provide design assistance, help maintain our digital asset management system (DAM), and to assist with other communications projects starting in the second semester of the 2023–2024 school year. The duties of this position include:

  • Based on prior experience and/or interest you may have the opportunity to create graphics for animations, create storyboards for animations and work with Adobe After Effects to create video animation.
  • Attend project kickoff meetings, listen closely to client’s needs, and provide design suggestions.
  • Design and update visual communications, including: brochures, direct mail pieces, website and social media graphics, event graphics and materials, and other marketing materials as needed.
  • Organize assets into the proper categories
  • Scan and upload consent forms, photography (digital, printed, negatives, and positives), and other documents
  • Assist with photo (and potentially video) shoots, including: set-up/tear-down, shooting, editing, etc.
  • Catalog assets in Canto, a digital asset management system (DAM)

    • Add description, keywords and tags, date, location, and subject (name/object) metadata
    • Organize assets into the proper categories
  • Work closely with creative team colleagues to produce both print and digital assets
    • Design and update visual communications, including: brochures, direct mail pieces, website and social media graphics, event graphics and materials, and other marketing materials as needed.
    • Attend project kickoff meetings, listen closely to client’s needs, and provide design suggestions.
    • Prepare packaged files, and work with internal partners or off site vendors for production.

Preferred hours:

The Graphic Design Intern should be available to work 15-20 hours per week, within UMF office hours of 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. The schedule will be arranged and agreed to by the supervisor and the intern.
