The Baltimore City Health Department (BCHD) seeks a Wellness and Culture Manager.
Founded in 1793, BCHD is the oldest health department in the country, with over 800 employees and an annual budget of $208 million, that aims to protect health, eliminate disparities, and ensure the well-being of every resident of Baltimore through education, advocacy, and direct service delivery. BCHD's wide-ranging responsibilities include maternal and child health, youth wellness, school health, senior services, animal control, restaurant inspections, violence prevention, emergency preparedness, STI/HIV treatment, and acute and chronic disease prevention.

Wellness Responsibilities
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, and participate in the development of new wellness initiatives
  • Engages with employees on a daily basis to promote, encourage and support healthy lifestyle behaviors
  • Manage the day to day relationship with all wellness and work/life vendors and/or agencies
  • May plan wellbeing fairs including speakers, health-related demonstrations, displays, and video materials provided by local agencies, insurance carriers, local/regional agencies, hospitals, and other resources
  • Tracks, measures, and report results of interventions, and challenges
  • Administer day-to-day Wellness Operations functions
  • Communication – Communication of plans and driving implementation of those
  • Manage vendor’s service performance
  • Develops and promote activities and challenges emphasizing wellbeing and prevention and that emphasize the importance of healthy lifestyles
  • Participates in initializing the key elements of a successful wellbeing initiative, including the components of an effective and measurable wellbeing and risk management system
  • Develops the annual tactical calendar/programming plan that is aligned with the objectives of the wellbeing program and is responsible for executing the same
  • Prepare ad hoc reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
  • Monitor outcomes to improve performance metrics
  • Facilitates Wellbeing Committee meetings in the organization and assists/coordinates the responsibilities of the Committee
  • Partner with the Wellness Champions to increase engagement of employees in wellness programs and initiatives
Culture and Engagement Responsibilities
  • Manage the employee review cycle process and ensure timely completion of review cycle tasks.
  • Advise on, draft and deploy strategic internal communications.
  • Lead and ensure the effectiveness of the Culture Committee
  • Manage and make improvements to the Company’s rewards and recognition platform and program.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Create learning and development opportunities and programs.
  • Develop employee engagement and communications strategy, prepare corresponding plan and execute deliverables related to the same.
  • Prepare employee communications for all levels of the organization around upcoming company events and initiatives, important employee reminders and various other internal programming.
  • Assess and improve the employee experience, making recommendations to leadership and executing corresponding solutions.
  • Oversee Company engagement surveys, including deploying the surveys, reviewing the outcome, and preparing corresponding materials to share results. Use data and insights generated from these surveys to drive changes to communication and engagement strategies.
Education and Experience Requirement
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Have five years or more years of experience in employee engagement and wellness program development.
