Engineer A

Education And/or Equivalent Experience

• Graduation with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus four (4) years engineering experience acquired either before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.

Licenses And Certifications Required

• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. license within six (6) months of employment.

Engineer B

Education And/or Equivalent Experience

• Graduation with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to engineering, plus six (6) years experience in engineering, acquired either before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.

Licenses And Certifications Required

Overview Of The Position

The Sidewalk and Special Projects Division ( SSPD ) is responsible for planning, building, and maintaining the City's 4,000+ mile sidewalk network. SSPD has been at the forefront of innovative pedestrian infrastructure solutions, including field engineered, unit cost project delivery, development of a comprehensive sidewalk condition assessment program, and the implementation of shared street and vegetation maintenance programs.

The Sidewalk Network Engineer is a critical member of a cross-functional team that will oversee development and implementation of transformational improvements to Austin's pedestrian networks. Austin voters have recently approved over $500 million in funding for sidewalk, bikeway, urban trail, safe route to school, and pedestrian safety improvements. This position will use the Austin Strategic Mobility Plan and Sidewalk/ ADA Transition Plan to guide the planning of public Right-of-Way projects.

Duties may also include but are not limited to: oversight of sidewalk repair customer service requests; coordination with District Maintenance crews; sidewalk condition assessment updates; alternative sidewalk repair contracts; interdepartmental coordination of sidewalk improvements by private development and other public programs; Standard and City Manual revisions; field engineering; budget oversight; and long-term planning related to sidewalks.

Pay Range

Grad B: $32.89 - $41.93

A: $34.86 - $44.45

B: $36.95 - $47.12
