Job Description

Design Group is recruiting for a Grader/Production Coordinator in our New York City location. This position reports to the Technical Development Lead.
WHAT WILL I DO IN THIS ROLE?
  • Assign grade rules representing correct growth values to each piece, based on predetermined grade rule libraries.
  • Provide trim measurements for use in notions listing.
  • Assign piece names to all pattern’s pieces of each style.
  • Production checking for writing and illustrating with garments and patterns.
  • Check fit of pattern pieces in graded sizes according to how garment will be sewn.
  • Manipulate grades as needed to create clear and visually easy-to-follow pattern.
  • Work closely with and provide support to the team.
  • Assist in special projects when required.
  • Transfer graded piece files for use by Layout Planner and Text/Plate Layout Planner.
  • Determine what growth values are required for the different areas of each piece.
  • Create final graded piece file in database for each design.
  • Prepare charts of grades for use in calculating finished garment measurements.
  • Place finished bust and hip measurements and line size text on pattern pieces as required.
WHAT SKILLS DO I NEED?
  • 2-3 years’ experience in computer and/or manual grading.
  • Computer skills necessary, desktop publishing environment.
  • Sewing and garment construction knowledge required.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Trade school courses in related subjects and/or experience in another pattern company helpful.

Minimum pay rate: $19/hour
Maximum pay rate: $24/hour
