Job Description
Job Summary


Performs skilled technical tasks in Endoscopy procedural areas under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. Assists in the care of patients with gastrointestinal and pulmonary problems. Prepares rooms and equipment for procedures. Cleans, disinfects and prepares endoscopy instruments according to manufacturer and professional organization recommendations and hospital protocols. Participates in team-building and quality initiatives.


Education: Graduate of an accredited High School or GED equivalency examination required.


Experience: Previous experience in hospital or medical setting preferred.


Licensure/Certification: Must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card.

Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of GI endoscopy equipment and procedures preferred. Medical terminology, basic computer and clerical skills. Proficient in written and spoken English grammar and spelling. Neat, legible handwriting. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with patients, physicians, other staff/team members. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe working environment. Ability to safely handle equipment with consideration for infection prevention, personal safety and avoiding damage to the equipment. Follows established hospital and department protocols. Strong observational skills. Ability to organize time and work space.


Must complete the SGNA Associates Program, an on-line Education Program, within 3 years of employment. Participates in on-going in-service education and training to validate and refresh basic skills and acquire new skills and knowledge. A minimum of five hours of GI/Endoscopy-specific education is required annually. SGNA membership preferred.
