Job Description

FRONT-END DEVELOPER / WORDPRESS SPECIALIST

Position Description


Hanson Inc., a digital marketing agency based in Toledo, OH, is seeking Front-End Development candidates with a specialty in WordPress and similar CMSes for a full-time position. Candidates must be able to prioritize tasks effectively, communicate well with teammates and clients, and thrive in a deadline-driven environment. They should collaborate well with other team members, strive to improve their skills and stay current with emerging trends. Familiarity with the entire web development process, from planning and design through development and deployment, is highly desired.

Ideal candidates will possess 3-5+ years industry experience. Must have a portfolio and/or URL links to examples of work.

This position reports to the Director of Front-End Development.


Responsibilities & Expectations
  • Translates visual designs into working interfaces, executes designs based on established branding and guidelines with great attention to detail
  • Comfort with the unknown and the confidence to handle changing project requirements, direction and project plans
  • Manages time without daily oversight
  • Elevates issues early and recommends plans of action/contingency to maximize options
  • Illustrates ability to use motion and user-feedback to produce fluid experiences
  • Works with cross-functional teams that include project managers, visual designers, software engineers, functional architects and account managers
  • Position includes regular maintenance on existing sites, development of new sites including planning and executing features
  • Works with project leads to plan and estimate assigned work and define requirements
  • Communicates proactively vs. reactively in order to maximize problem-solving options
  • Appropriately uses all channels of communication (e.g., Slack, email, phone etc.) to drive progress and clarity
  • Cross-team collaboration to drive decision making and alignment
  • Experience testing and optimizing for diverse clients from high-powered desktop computers to small footprint mobile devices


Experience & Qualifications
  • Strong desire to grow technical skillet to learn and apply new technologies
  • Experience testing and debugging in multiple browsers and devices
  • Good understanding of web standards, responsive design and core web vitals
  • Good understanding of layout with CSS, good eye for color, design, typography
  • 3+ years WordPress development experience, experience with custom theme and plugin development desired
  • Experience with Git source control and working in a team environment desirable
  • Skilled in HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • Familiarity with feature/bug-tracking tools such as Jira
  • Moderate level of PHP programming experience
  • Experience with Gutenberg editor, including custom module development, desired
  • Experience with Node.js based build tools (Webpack)
  • Experience creating and using custom taxonomies and field sets (using Advanced Custom Fields)
  • Knowledge of other content management systems (Optimizely, Sitefinity, Contentful, Sanity) desirable
  • Comfortable with CSS preprocessors like LESS and SASS and CSS frameworks such as Bootstrap and Foundation
