Job Description

The Forklift Tech is responsible for ensuring optimal operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications and troubleshooting malfunctions.

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain an organized and neat work area
  • Replace broken or defective parts from stock parts and/or order replacement parts for major repairs
  • Ensure work area and methods used in carrying out job duties meet safety requirements.
  • Learn new technical information and techniques to stay current with changing technology.
  • Reassemble forklifts and make all necessary adjustments for effective and safe operation.
  • Cleaning of equipment and other areas as required.
  • Troubleshoot forklift problems to include brake, electrical and hydraulic systems, detect imperfections, potential problems, safety issues and/or malfunctions
  • Perform routine, emergency and preventative maintenance of forklifts.
  • Able to diagnose and repair mast and attachment components.
  • Interpret manufacturer's technical manuals to perform the necessary maintenance and repairs needed.
  • Tests forklift trucks to ensure repairs are completed correctly.
  • Perform safety inspection of forklifts prior to being released back to the work floor
  • Repairs and maintains various types of forklift trucks including electric, gas-powered, and propane-powered.
  • Good working knowledge of brake systems and tire/wheel changes
  • Competent to complete legible service documents and logs for preventative maintenance tasks
  • Ability to work on LP, gas and diesel systems.
  • Schedules and performs routine maintenance for forklift trucks. Ensures batteries for electric forklift trucks are fully charged.
  • Must possess the ability to be focused on observing proper operating procedures and safety practices.
  • Must be familiar with OSHA regulations regarding the operation of a forklift, and all other equipment

Job Qualifications

  • Manufacturing, automotive, military or recent trade school graduates with applied skills.
  • Complete test and maintenance reports
  • Two or more years of experience in a related field, including maintenance of various lift trucks such as Hyster, Kalmar and Yale with lift ratings up to 16,000 lbs. and 60,000 lbs.
  • Good communication skills
  • Have working under OSHA regulations
  • Have analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Be reliable, responsible and dependable while fulfilling obligations
  • Able to function well as a team member
  • Able to work safely and follow company rules and procedures
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays and night shift if necessary
  • Ability to function with little supervision

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl
  • Ability to withstand extreme seasonal weather shifts.
