The Opportunity
Abbott Rapid Diagnostics (formerly Alere) is part of Abbott’s Diagnostics family of businesses, bringing together exceptional teams of experts and industry leading technologies. The position of Forensic Certifying Scientist I, Positive is within the Toxicology Division located in Richmond, VA at Alere Toxicology Services. The individual filling this position will be responsible for reviewing, processing and interpreting mass spectrometry analytical data in accordance with the respective accrediting body, such as SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration), CAP-FUDT, CLIA, etc.
What You’ll Work On
- Final review of LC/MS/MS and GC/MS analytical data including calibration, controls, chain of custody, and donor data, including SAMHSA
- Use of Agilent ChemStation software
- Adherence to all security procedures for ensuring confidentiality of donor information
- Provide assistance to Medical Review Officers (MRO) regarding donor results
- Legal testimony, as needed
- Operation of Sciex LC/MS/MS and Agilent GC/MS instruments
- Operation of the Screening instruments and initial review of data, including SAMHSA
- Adherence with company policy
- Initial review of analytical data, as needed
- Training of new personnel, as needed
- Use of Sciex Analyst and MultiQuant software
- Knowledge of drug metabolism
Required Qualifications
- BS degree in a science or equivalent relevant field
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to understand certification requirements for SAMHSA, CAP (College of American Pathologists), and other relevant regulatory bodies
- Ability to understand laboratory instrumentation
- Ability to understand the function of a LIS (Laboratory Information System) and other laboratory computer systems
- Be able to lift and/or move 25 pounds
- Ability to understand analytical techniques and procedures
- Excellent math and reasoning ability to develop and communicate laboratory procedures and reports
