Job Description
Description Of Position


  • Serves meals to visitors and staff of Lake Charles Memorial Hospital and provides additional services as needed. Serves patients meals and delivers to nursing unit.


Responsibilities And Duties


  • Actively participates in unit/hospital cost saving and productivity initiatives.
  • Prepares and serves meals according to the catering calendar in a sanitary, efficient and timely manner
  • Ensures accuracy of food items being delivered to the patient and informs patient of meal selection and any therapeutic diet information
  • Use resources efficiently.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned by manager
  • Maintains the privacy, safety, and dignity of each customer by observing client confidentiality and by strictly adhering to safety and sanitation standards.

  • Serves meals to visitors and staff and provides additional services as needed
  • Operates the dish machine and maintains the cleanliness of the dish machine and surrounding area.
  • Delivers trays to nursing unit and/or patient’s rooms.
  • Serves patient meals and delivers to nursing unit and/or patient rooms
  • Prepares, monitors and provides food by following appropriate menu, production and delivery schedules.
  • Serves meals to visitors and staff
  • Performs clerical and routine tasks to complete the process of patient menus, diet and nourishment orders and/or changes
  • Empties garbage and moves to dump site.
  • Checks temperatures, sanitation and soap dispensing levels.
  • Concentration for Porters:
  • Stores clean equipment and utensils
  • Provides excellent customer service and maintains a positive attitude towards clients, customer, co-workers, hospital staff, etc.
  • Prepares, monitors and delivers food by following appropriate menu, production and delivery schedules to patients
  • Ensures accuracy of food items being delivered to the patient and informs patient of meal selection and any therapeutic diet information.
  • Communicates issues in regards to safety, patients, and/or uncomplicated tasks to peers, supervisors and subordinates as appropriate
  • Concentration for Catering
  • Respects hospital equipment and property. Keep assigned work area, tools and equipment clean according to master cleaning schedule.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as needed and assigned.
  • Conduct self in a calm and purposeful manner during stressful situations

Education And Work Experience


  • Ability to respond to common inquiries and complaints from customers.
  • Ability to convey information to others that has been learned.
  • High School Diploma or GED Preferred.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions
  • Ability to retain patterns of behavior once trained.
  • Ability to calculate simple mathematical equations.
  • Ability to read dials and documents.


Physical Demands/Work Environment


  • Work requires a variety of physical activities, including moving about within and outside of all hospital properties for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.
