Minimum qualifications:

• Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license
• High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Four years of food services experience and/or experience supervising youth
• OR formal education that results in competencies equivalent to the competencies learned through the required experience may be substituted for the experience on a year for year basis (i.e. 2 year degree in a food related program would count for 2 years of experience).

Job description:

This position may be assigned to work breakfast, lunch, or dinner shifts. The Division of Youth Services Food Services Program includes all activities and responsibilities related to the management and oversight of food services to all detained and committed youth.

• Follows menus and recipes and ensures the youth follow menus and recipes that comply with the National School Lunch Program (NSL), School Breakfast Program (BP) and DYS policies and procedures.
• Assigning and evaluating work, handling informal grievances, initiating corrective and disciplinary actions, and participating in the hiring and firing of the offenders.
• Prepare, serve, and clean after meal services with the assistance of youth enrolled in the vocational program.
• Ensures that food services equipment and physical plant of kitchen are cleaned on a regular basis as assigned to keep them free of food particles, dust, and bacteria.
• Assists in taking a physical count of the inventory at least once a month.
• Position has supervisory responsibility for youth participating in a food services work program and has supervisory responsibility for youth offenders.
• Responsible as a lead worker to delegate any prep, cooking, or cleaning to youth and/or support staff as needed.
• Assists with the facilitation of the culinary program curriculum. Instructs youth on food service tasks by reviewing the information in relevant manuals, textual materials and watching and discussing food service videos, etc.
