Job Description

Job Title: Food Scientist-R&D

Department: Food Science

Reports to: Food Science Supervisor


Job Summary

The Food Scientist develops recipes and profiles for both freeze-dry and co-pack clients. Delivers high-quality food products that meet consumer expectations. Analyzes data to optimize production and to produce high-quality freeze-dried products. Answers consumer questions and assists clients and coworkers in food related questions, including food regulations, safety, and label information.

Job Duties

  • Create and maintain recipes using freeze-dried and other ingredients to meet customer needs
  • Ability to communicate updates and information to clients
  • Manage and create freeze-dry profiles for new and existing ingredients
  • Take lead on new product development and product reformulation
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
  • Provide and maintain information, such as labeling information, nutrition facts, etc. to clients
  • Use lab dryers to test new products and optimize current projects
  • Communicate with clients and maintain professional relationships
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize work, and safeguard confidential information


Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Extensive typing and computer use for entire shift
  • Typical of an office environment including sitting at a workstation for entire shift
  • Occasional lifting of 25 – 50lbs
  • Standing and moving around on a semi-frequent basis for an entire shift

Qualifications

  • Experience with spreadsheets preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, or related field
  • Experience with labeling software, including ESHA Genesis R&D preferred
  • Basic knowledge of food law and regulations
  • Experience within the food industry is a plus
  • Experience with Microsoft Office preferred
  • 0-1+ years of related experience
