Job Title: Food Scientist-R&D
Department: Food Science
Reports to: Food Science Supervisor
Job Summary
The Food Scientist develops recipes and profiles for both freeze-dry and co-pack clients. Delivers high-quality food products that meet consumer expectations. Analyzes data to optimize production and to produce high-quality freeze-dried products. Answers consumer questions and assists clients and coworkers in food related questions, including food regulations, safety, and label information.
Job Duties
- Create and maintain recipes using freeze-dried and other ingredients to meet customer needs
- Ability to communicate updates and information to clients
- Manage and create freeze-dry profiles for new and existing ingredients
- Take lead on new product development and product reformulation
- Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
- Provide and maintain information, such as labeling information, nutrition facts, etc. to clients
- Use lab dryers to test new products and optimize current projects
- Communicate with clients and maintain professional relationships
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize work, and safeguard confidential information
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Extensive typing and computer use for entire shift
- Typical of an office environment including sitting at a workstation for entire shift
- Occasional lifting of 25 – 50lbs
- Standing and moving around on a semi-frequent basis for an entire shift
Qualifications
- Experience with spreadsheets preferred
- Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, or related field
- Experience with labeling software, including ESHA Genesis R&D preferred
- Basic knowledge of food law and regulations
- Experience within the food industry is a plus
- Experience with Microsoft Office preferred
- 0-1+ years of related experience
