Position Description: A Traffic Control Flagger is someone that directs public traffic (both vehicular and pedestrian) through road construction sites and lane closure
This involves setting up cones and safety barriers that show traffic where to drive, as well as holding up a paddle with "Stop" on one side and "Slow" on the other which they use to help indicate to motorists to slow down, stop and pass through the work zone. Flaggers often work in conjunction with other flaggers, with each standing at opposite ends of the construction area and coordinating traffic flow via communication, either via two-way radio or hand signals. At times, they will use the assistance of orange barrels, cones, vehicle placement, and other devices which they position alongside the roadway.
Flaggers must be constantly aware of both the construction and traffic activity taking place around them. Flaggers have the responsibility for directing the actions of motoring and pedestrian traffic for their safety and the safety of the work crew.
The position consists of but is not limited to the following duties:
Maintain a consistent and unrelenting focus on safety throughout all job functions.
Hold a Stop/Slow paddle upright in conjunction with appropriate verbal and non-verbal communications with drivers.
Follow company and state guidelines for effective, safe and well-managed work zones.
Operate company trucks to transport materials and equipment to job sites. Keep equipment in trucks well organized and in working order.
Operate a Pilot Truck to lead motorists through a complex work zone. Driver must not start a trip through the work zone until it is safe to do so, they must know which lanes to use, and maintain a safe speed.
Arrive to the work site on time and ready to work wearing proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Place temporary construction signs in work area.
Place traffic cones or drums and other traffic safety devices in work area.
Check work zone throughout shift to be sure items are still in their proper location.
Pick up traffic control items at beginning and end of the shift and load unto truck.
Other duties as assigned.
The above listed duties require long periods of standing, walking, climbing, stooping, and bending as well as periodic lifting of up to 50 pounds.


  • Position Requirements: Valid Georgia Driver's License and an acceptable driving record. Full Time + hours Able to work nights and weekends when required Must have reliable transportation
