Job Summary
- Controls movement of vehicular traffic through construction projects, while ensuring the safety of the traveling public and crew.
Main Responsibilities
- Gives hand marker to last driver in line up of one-way traffic for flagger at opposite end of site, signaling clearance for reverse flow of traffic.
- Discusses traffic routing plans, type and location of control points with superior.
- Distributes traffic control signs and markers along site in designated pattern.
- Directs movement of traffic through site, using, signs, hands and flag signals.
- Warns crew when approaching vehicle fails to heed signals to prevent accident and injury to workers.
- Informs drivers of detour routes through construction sites.
Education
- Professional Certifications preferred.
- College/University Degree(s) preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear).
- Regularly exposed to all outdoor weather conditions, dust, and airborne particles.
- Must be able to pass drug screening and a PAT (physical abilities test).
- Wears and maintains personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Frequent exposure to loud noise.
- Standing/working on feet for long periods, and walking across uneven terrain.
Miscellaneous
- CPR/First Aid Certification desired.
- Valid Driver’s License and good driving record.
- Excellent communication skills required.
- May occasionally operate pilot car at construction site.
- Flagging Certificate required.
- Road construction experience preferred.
- Must adhere to all DOT and Company safety regulations.
