Firefighter/Inspector Jobs

Job Summary
There are two main functions for this position, rental inspections and responding to emergency calls. This position will enforce local codes on all rental properties in Chaska and have thorough knowledge of state and local codes. Conducts fire safety and prevention educations programs in the community. Assist the Fire Marshal with new construction plan reviews and inspections. Assist with fire investigations when needed.

This Position is eligible for the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) Police & Fire Plan.

Shifts for this position will be 6:00 am– 4:00 pm, either Monday – Thursday or Tuesday -– Friday.

Responsibilities

• Respond to calls for any fire, medical, rescue, or other call for service
• Serve as the technical resource for Image Trend fire reporting, pre-plans, fire scheduler, and other CFD programs.
• Coordinate department programs and assists with the preparation of special events
• Additional duties may include: Scheduling and coordination of training for other department staff, research and administration of equipment and supplies, assisting with community event planning for Fire Department, creating and maintaining reports for Administration.
• Participate in the CFD Duty Crew program and meets all requirements and expectations.
• Attend and actively participate in all required fire department and outside trainings, to maintain and improve knowledge, skills, abilities, and maintain certifications.
• Assist the Fire Marshal in reviewing plans, construction documents, and inspections to ensure they meet fire code, city ordinances, and state and federal construction codes.
• Conduct fire and life safety inspections on all the rental properties and commercial buildings to identify safety hazards to determine code compliance.
• Assist the Fire Marshal in investigating issues related to unwanted fire alarms.
• Provide data entry into the Minnesota Fire District incident reporting systems (ImageTrend and SmartGov) including calls for service, locations, and activities, including regular duty crew hours, and other payroll entries line programs.
• Performs related duties and responsibilities as required

Qualifications
Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent.

Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Certification of EMR or EMT
• Certification at Fire Inspector II level by MFSCB or ability to obtain within 2 years of date of hire
• Minnesota State Certification of Firefighter I, II, and Hazmat Ops by the MFSCB
• Certification of FAO or ability to obtain within one year from date of hire
• Possession of a valid, unrestricted Minnesota driver’s license.
• Minnesota Firefighter License or the ability to obtain within one year from date of hire
• Certification at Fire Inspector I level by MFSCB or ability to obtain within 1 year from date of hire

• Work involves frequent inspections and working with tenants and landlords
• Work involved calls to emergency situations as a firefighter/operator/officer/or command

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $59,113.60 - $73,881.60 per year

Schedule:

• 10 hour shift
