JOB DESCRIPTION
The Controller role is a salaried position with an annual bonus opportunity and a competitive benefits package. Thomas Doll provides medical and dental, long-term disability and accidental death insurance policies. We offer RTO (Responsible Time Off), 401(K) plan with a profit-sharing feature, medical deductible reimbursement, pet insurance, tuition reimbursement, educational assistance and more.
The Controller is responsible for all internal bookkeeping and accounting for five firms
(Partnership, S Corp, C Corp, LLC), including:
- Performs all year-end closeouts.
- Reconciles bank accounts.
- Creates financial statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Works closely with COO and partners to identify, recommend, and carry out accounting/bookkeeping process improvements with the firms.
- Advises partners and COO, performing special accounting projects frequently.
- Supervises assistant controller and finance department responsible for accounts receivable, accounts payables, payroll, client billing, banking.
- Advises Partners, in-house bookkeepers, and account managers on best tax practices.
- Oversees company peer review every 3 years.
- Prepares tax returns (income/property/use/1099s etc.) for five companies.
- Monitors cash flow, calculates and distributes quarterly compensation and seasonal bonuses.
REQUIREMENTS
- Solid knowledge of corporate tax law (LLC, C, S, Partnerships)
- Minimum of 5 years accounting experience
- Solid knowledge of payroll tax law
- Exceptional skills with Lacerte, Sage, QBO (QuickBooks online) QuickBooks desktop, and Xero
- Solid knowledge of accounting and tax issues pertaining to dental/medical practice acquisitions, sales, and mergers
- Prior experience as a controller in a midsize firm preferred
- BS in accounting, CPA or similar credentials preferred

- Our corporate office is in the Shadelands Office Park area of Walnut Creek, close to freeways and public transportation.
- This is an exempt, manager role
- This is a Monday through Friday position during regular business hours
- Candidate must be flexible with our busy peak times and adjust their schedule when needed due to business needs.
