Major Duties


Under general supervision of the Executive Director of Student Housing, the Financial Analyst oversees financial and accounting process and systems for the Office of Student Housing and Residential Life, with responsibilities that include budget development, and oversight and analysis. The incumbent oversees human resources/payroll, procurement, travel and training and directly oversees an Accounting Technician II, as well as student office assistants.


  • Prepares and presents the annual budget to the Student Housing Executive Director, Student Affairs, and Administration and Finance, initiates budget preparation processes each year and guides departmental leadership through planning processes.
  • Reviews all personnel transactions including appointments, leaves of absence, salary adjustments, and terminations to ensure that they are accurately and timely completed.

  • Ensures that Student Housing operations include sound programmatic business financial practices and procedures so as to establish internal controls that prevent fraud, waste, or abuse of resources.


Qualifications


  • Equivalent to five (5) years of full-time, progressively responsible relevant experience. Oversight and administration of a program with supervision and/or lead experience.
  • Experience working in a university setting preferred.
  • Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in a job-related field required.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities


  • Ability and specialized skills to: take initiative and independently plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved; expertise in investigating and analyzing problems with a broad administrative impact and implications; ability to train others and provide lead work direction; interpret, and apply a wide variety of policies and procedures to develop conclusions and make recommendations; perform basic research and statistical analysis; analyze data and make accurate projections using business mathematics and basic statistics; communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Thorough knowledge of general practices, program, and/or administrative specialty, and operational and fiscal analysis and techniques. Advanced knowledge of policies, procedures, and outside regulations pertaining to financial accounting processes and systems.


Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule


  • Classification/grade: 1038 / AA/S / 3
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday; may include evenings and weekends.
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $5022 - $6932 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $5022 - $9083 per month.

  • The individual hired for this role will physically work on-campus in Northridge. This is not a telecommute position.
  • REG: This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
