Job Title: Field Service Technician
- Strong mechanical knowledge: interpret drawings, schematics, and manuals to pinpoint issues, diagnosis and trouble-shooting, mechanical repairs, mathematics ability, machine shop experience, preventing malfunctions
- Willing to work in a variety of environments, including food processing, medical cleanrooms, meat processing, and butchering facilities
- Strong Electrical knowledge: Ohm's Law, mutlimeter usage, AC/DC currents, reading blueprints and circuit diagrams, electrical troubleshooting on complex machinery,
- Work independently in unsupervised settings, coordinate travel details, communicate with team, provide professional and polished customer support
- Other good experience includes field service technician, military service, packaging, plant manager, robotics, industrial machinery installations, hand/power tools, maintenance technician, electrician, traveling
- Accustomed to facing unhappy customers with unrealistic expectations and a sometimes less than professional approach
- Experience traveling as a field service technician (or in a similar role), doing both installations and trouble-shooting
- Able to perform physically challenging work in high-stress, often noisy, situations
- Prior experience with packaging machines (ideally thermoformers or vacuum sealing)
- Must be open to extensive travel, gone up to 5 days in a row with 2 days off, or 10 days with 4 days off
- Ideally, not more than 2 jobs in the last 5 years, or 3 jobs in the last 7 years
- Prior troubleshooting experience on complex equipment, where others have often compounded issues by trying, and failing, to repair on their own
- Experience working in food and meat processing facilities, with cold environments and messy equipment
- Must live within 30-45 minutes of a major airport
- Military experience is beneficial, particular mechanical or electrical
- Complete service documentation on what was repaired during the service call and submit related expenses for the trip and time spent on the call. Reports are complete, accurate, and submitted within 24 hours of job completion. Weekly expense reports and time sheets are also completed in an accurate and timely manner. All expenses incurred are handled in a cost-effective manner.
- Conduct training for customers on the safe operations of equipment, maintenance, and parts ordering. Provide contact information for service team for future service needs and parts needs. Ensure customers are comfortable with operational and safety procedures of their equipment.
- Consistently make travel arrangements within company policy guidelines and in the most cost effective and time efficient manner possible. Keep service team members and customers informed of arrival times. Travel arrangements will include: hotel, car rental, and flights.
- Communicate with scheduler on a daily basis, give updates on current job status, and receive additional job assignments. Maintain quality and quantity of work on equipment. Listen attentively and ask questions as appropriate. Complete work assignments with minimum supervision. Retrieve and respond to messages daily on all communication tools.
- Install and/or repair new or modified equipment according to specifications at customer facilities in a timely manner to ensure full functionality. Upon completion of installation, all technical documentation will be provided to the regional scheduler.
- Provide onsite technical assistance to help troubleshoot and repair equipment in a reasonable amount of time. Provide a communication link between the customer and MULTIVAC to help ensure that effective service is provided to the customer.
- While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather) and work near moving mechanical parts. The associate is frequently exposed to extreme cold (non-weather); extreme heat (non-weather) and risk of electrical shock. The associate is occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
- Profit sharing – calculated on all wages, including overtime, typically adds an additional 5-7%
- Starting hourly rate is $30-$32/hour
- New high-end tool kit, stocked with all necessary equipment
- Double time for all Saturday and Sunday work, plus standard overtime on weekdays, including travel time
- Company car (lease, insurance, gas, property tax, maintenance) provided. Okay to use for personal use.
- Reimbursement or credit for work clothing, boots, etc.
- Laptop, cell phone, and all related accessories provided
- All techs begin at Level 1, with clear guidelines regarding the skills and testing necessary to achieve level 2, and 3, status and perks
- Successful technicians are also encouraged to explore promotion within other groups, such as training, sales, customer service, etc.
- Field service leadership opportunities are also increasingly available, as we're growing each team around the country, while also currently establishing 2 additional regional offices.
- Those with specific experience or interests can advance to high-level specialized positions, focused on particular equipment lines or service objectives
- In person interview at regional office with Regional Director and Supervisor(s) (includes lengthy hand-on assessment of electrical circuit, etc.)
- Microsoft Teams call with Team Supervisors (includes verbal screen of mechanical and electrical knowledge)
- Phone interview (or in person, if candidate wants additional info or needs convincing) with VP of Customer Service
- Intro call and screen (sometimes skipped)
- Electrical Expertise: Share an example of a particularly challenging electrical project from your recent experience
- Schedule: Provide details regarding your flexibility (and past experience, if applicable) regarding amount of travel, number of evenings away at a time, and availability to work weekends
- Mechanical Experience: Provide an example of complex mechanical troubleshooting from your recent experience
- Share the city where you currently live, and your average commute time to the closest major airport
- Compensation: Confirm you've received detailed compensation information and the package aligns with your needs (new techs often take a small step back in hourly pay to gain increased benefits, support, training, and advancement opportunity)
- Environment: Confirm you've been educated on the variety of work environments and are comfortable working in facilities where machines are used for meat processing (with freezing temperatures and messy equipment)
