The NYC Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) has selected CASES to implement the Mentoring and Advocacy Program (MAAP) for youth involved in, or at high risk for involvement in, the criminal or juvenile legal systems. CASES’ MAAP will serve youth residing in Manhattan who are referred by ACS from the Family Assessment Program (FAP), the Juvenile Justice Initiative (JJI), or residential placement in Close to Home.

MAAP is a one-on-one, community-based mentoring program focused on supporting youth and their families and connecting youth and families to resources in the community. CASES Manhattan MAAP is guided by three primary principles related to mentee engagement: 1) Healthy Relationships, which depend on consistent engagement; 2) Interest-building which can promote sustained youth engagement as the young person identifies and works to pursue interests and aspirations; and 3) Civic Engagement, a form of advanced engagement that can empower youth to see themselves as positive agents of change/service in their community.

This position entails full-time hours, 35 hours a week, but team members will need to be flexible to the schedules of youth and families, some of whom are in school or working.

Requirement: Travel throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx as needed to serve youth where they are.

Reports to: Team Leader, MAAP



Essential Duties:

  • Participate in trainings internally and externally
  • Participate in team meetings and supervision
  • Complete all necessary documentation in a timely manner
  • Adhere to protocols and policies set by ACS Preventive Services
  • Develop and maintaining strategic alliances with community partners
  • Coordinate with all team members to ensure participants are meeting program goals and obtaining necessary services
  • Conduct individual and family sessions – sessions will primarily take place in the home or community
  • Other duties as assigned by Team Leader
  • Provide culturally competent services in accordance with CASES policies and practices;
  • Administer assessments for youth and families to inform family service plan

Secondary Duties:

  • Participate in internal and external trainings;
  • Other duties as assigned by Team Leader

Qualifications
  • Familiarity with ACS Preventive services and/or databases a plus
  • Ability to be creative and flexible
  • A desire to engage with youth and families in a meaningful and supportive way
  • Master's degree in social work, Mental Health Counseling with experience with youth and/or families
  • Commitment to active youth engagement through collaboration with youth and their families
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Some experience engaging youth
  • Thorough understanding of a strengths-based youth development approach to working with young people and families
