Family Learning and Community Engagement Specialist will work with a cross-functional team to ensure high quality delivery of Family Literacy strategies for Adult Education students. The Family Learning and Community Engagement Specialist will collaborate with the GA DOE, TCSG funded Adult Education programs, Certified Literate Community Programs, community partners, and other professional development providers offering support in 2GEN literacy efforts.


Responsibilities


Implementation of Strategic Family and Community Engagement Plan


  • Develop consistent communication and feedback mechanisms to ensure we can identify, discuss, and address issues impacting Adult Education students, families, and communities. Develop communication systems to share best practices, highlight bright spots, and keep staff apprised of key initiatives and activities.
  • Develop processes and systems to evaluate progress and measure the impact of Family Literacy initiatives funded by state/federal Adult Education and Family Literacy Act Funds. With direction from the Director of Professional Development and the Director of Research and Impact, review and analyze data sources. Use data to inform decisions and to provide recommendations to all TCSG Adult Education program providers.
  • Support and implement a long-term strategic plan for Family and Community Engagement within Georgia’s Adult Education program rooted in our mission, vision, theory of action, and evidence-based research.


Curate and Execute Professional Development (PD)
  • Organize, develop, and deliver web-based and on-site high-quality training, coaching, and/or technical assistance services regarding Adult Literacy and Family Engagement.
  • Remain abreast of research-based professional learning strategies regarding Adult Literacy and Family Literacy
  • Manage relationships with external partners and presenters as needed to deliver PD, training, and support to achieve our plan.
  • Provide professional development sessions for regional and program-based leadership teams on Family and Community Engagement
  • Use evidence-based research and best practices from diverse practitioners and researchers to support Adult Education providers in making progress in our strategic plan, create Family and Community Engagement/Literacy PD, and to support Certified Community Literacy Programs.


Partner and Engage with Families, Communities, and Stakeholders
  • Lead and participate in special assignments as required.
  • Work with program-based leadership teams on expanding their goals to include working with the community and families; apply accountability measures for program-based teams to check their progress and success on these goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Connect region and programs to key community partnerships – Host and participate in community literacy events that prepare parents or caregivers to transition into postsecondary education, training programs or the workforce.
  • Assess family involvement and partnership with both CLCPs and AEFLA providers using a Community Engagement Framework.
  • Represent the department at various internal and external meetings.
  • Engage regularly and provide high-quality customer service to local program administrators, CLCP Directors and other key stakeholders.
  • Work with CLCP leaders to create a scope and sequence for how to work with families throughout the year.
  • Participate in statewide training events provided by TCSG.


Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and Two (2) years related work experience Note: Experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis


Preferred Requirements
  • Excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Skilled at collaborative action planning and execution
  • Excellent writing skills, ability to conceptualize and communicate ideas, organizational skills, and interest in working with a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and efficiently on varied projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in leading others toward common goals and impact
  • Experience working with adults and children, program- and community-based partners, and evaluators.
  • Travel up to 25% including occasional nights and weekends.
  • Master’s Degree and 3 or more years of successful K-12 classroom teaching experience.
  • 5-7 years of experience in leading instruction, training, or coaching efforts in diverse settings and communities
  • Proven track record of ambitious results in previous roles.
