Job Description
Perform day to day operations of the external dosimetry program for the measurement of external radiation exposure of Argonne employees, subcontractors, and visitors. Some responsibilities include:
  • Operate a Radiation Generating Device (RGD) to perform blind-audit irradiations and additional quality control related measurements.
  • Enter personnel into the Argonne dosimetry database application.
  • Perform external dosimetry reporting and investigate and collaborate with operational Health Physics personnel.
  • Prepare and issue dosimetry to personnel.
  • Manage multiple responsibilities and actions during dosimetry exchanges.
Position Requirements
Position Qualifications:
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Must meet all the requirements of the qualification process and annual requalification as outlined in local procedures.
  • Technical knowledge of the design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of dosimetry instrumentation and the associated software needed to support DOELAP accredited dosimetry programs.
  • Ability to model Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.
  • Knowledge of electronic laboratory instrumentation and computer software as used in general health physics and radiation measurement applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of DOE requirements related to external dosimetry monitoring.
  • Knowledge of a successfully executed external radiation dosimetry program.
The selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level (PT2 or PT3) dependent upon depth and breadth of relevant knowledge and skills brought to the position, as well as the amount of relevant experience. The requirements of the various levels are as follows:
  • PT2 Level: Bachelor’s and 2+ years of experience or equivalent
  • PT3 Level: Bachelor’s and 4+ years of experience or equivalent
