Job Purpose:
Provide general security guard duties to provide safety and security of residents (minors), government and contractor staff, and visitors.
Hourly Rate: $20.00
$4.22 per hour for the first 40 hours for Health and Welfare.
You will receive shift differential according to your shift worked. More information will be provided.

Job Summary:
Akima Global Services (AGS) LLC, has requirements for temporary, intermittent unarmed security guard services for an Unaccompanied Minor Shelter Center in El Paso, TX. Guards provide security patrols, access control, security related escort duties, traffic and parking control, security and safety response, and surveillance. While these are the primary duties, other security related duties may be assigned as needed and required. Security Guards report to an immediate Supervisor (Lieutenant) who provides instruction and direction.
Job Responsibilities:
The duties of the Unarmed Security Guard for the HHS/ORR Unaccompanied Minor Shelter Center include but are not limited to the following:
- Report unusual events that threaten the security of the center or endangers life or property.
- Maintain primary entry and egress locations on the facility.
- Maintain the safety and security of all areas by taking actions as required by appropriate procedures and checklists.
- Maintain checklists and checkpoints throughout your assigned shift.
- Take charge of your post by securing and protecting personnel and property for which you are responsible until properly relieved. Comply with orders and instructions given. These responsibilities continue until relieved by proper authority.
- Report all violations of orders you must enforce.
- Conduct physical and electronic surveillance in all areas of assigned responsibility.
- Take reasonable counteraction to save life and property or lessen danger. At the same time, you must maintain the security of your post and remain alert for other possible violations during the emergency.
- Give the alarm in case of disorder or emergency.
- Provide for facility traffic control when required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to pass a company background investigation to include criminal, credit , fingerprint checks, physical test and drug screening.
- Must have a H.S. Diploma or GED.
- Must provide two personal references who will be contacted.
- Must be able to fluently read, speak, write, and understand the English language.
- Must have valid driver's license.
- Must be at least 19 years of age.
- Must have intermediate to advanced English writing skills, including ability to prepare detailed written reports and fill out forms.
- Must meet physical requirements of the position to include standing and walking for long periods of time.
- Must pass Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN) check.
- Preferred one (1) year of experience in a security/law enforcement related profession, either civilian or military.
- Must meet client suitability.
- Must be able to pass all training and obtain all required certifications.
- Paid Training will be provided.
- Must be willing and able to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Bi-Lingual ability to speak and understand Spanish is considered a positive factor.
- Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Texas State Security Guard Card.
- Must have 1 year of customer or professional public facing experience.
Common Critical Tasks : Normal, everyday duties.
- Patrol locations in areas which are a potentially hazardous to the public (e.g., construction sites).
- Will be required to wear a face mask.
- Close off/restrict areas to traffic, establish perimeters, and set up barricades to secure incident scenes or facilities.
- Monitor security and fire alarms and closed-circuit television to detect security risks or threats.
- Operate walk through metal detectors (WTMD) to search visitors for prohibited items. Operate hand/wand metal detectors on persons who trigger the WTMD.
- Investigate the source of suspicious odors, sightings, and sounds.
- Using handheld scanning equipment, scan badges of all personnel (including UAC) entering or exiting defined controlled locations; verify scanned image with face to photo verification, requiring vision (corrected, if necessary) at 20/20.
- Check packages, briefcases, containers, or any other items in the possession of people entering or leaving controlled ingress/egress points.
- Inspect facilities and perimeters for hazards, mechanical problems, and unsafe conditions and report problems to appropriate authorities.
- Stand post at the entry/exit gates to verify all persons' identification and conduct inquiries and surveillance of items, packages, and people.
- Conduct patrols in accordance with routes and schedules contained in post orders.
- Observe unique characteristics of an individual for identification purposes; Observe a person's body language to assess attitude and intention.
- Conduct vehicle inspection, which may include inspecting under seats, in the trunk, and under the vehicle.
- Close and secure open windows, doors, gates, or other access points.
Occasional Critical Tasks : Occur less frequently, but critical to job performance and public safety.
- Run to an incident to render assistance.
- Subdue violent persons with or without assistance; break up fights (Does not apply to UACs).
- Use defensive tactics to prevent or control movements of individuals (Does not apply to UACs).
- Locate and review documents and information (e.g., logs, lists); read memos and other written material to obtain and maintain knowledge; review maps, floor plans, diagrams, or other information to become familiar with facility and property boundaries.
- Ability to kneel and stand up without assistance (searches, rendering assistance to someone who is down).
- Administer cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR);
- Evacuate individuals from dangerous and/or life threatening situations.
- Pursue fleeing individual on foot.
General Physical Hazards
- Security Guards will be required to stand at a post for long periods of time, up to 4 hours without a break.
- Security Guards will be exposed to a wide variety of environmental conditions including, but not limited to: working outdoors, excessive heat/cold, constant noise, slippery or uneven walking surfaces, working around moving objects or vehicles, shifts lasting eight or more hours while working alone, frequent, close contact with members of the public, potential threats or security risks, whether physical or verbal, and construction environment and associated hazards.
- Security Guards will often have to walk moderate distances across the campus or to perform rounds (average 3/4 mile to go from campus end to end, multiple times).
