Job Description

Job Summary:

The purpose of an estimator is to capture the building’s scope of work, delivery, cost, and meet our customer’s expectations in the most efficient manner. This role reports directly to the Estimating Leader.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Estimate buildings as requested by customers

  • Receive project assignments from the Estimating Leader.
  • Input project information into MBS and other programs as needed to generate estimate.
  • Be in constant communication with the Estimating Leader on RFI’s or when an estimate could potentially miss the expected deadline that was presented to the customer.
  • Request any required special pricing from vendors that you can before completing the estimate. (ex. Bar joist, decking, roof curbs, panels, insulation, etc.)
  • Review projects before the assigned start date and send request for any missing information or necessary clarification from sales (RFI) to complete an accurate estimate.
  • Demonstrate STBS core values by also exhibiting the desire to learn and grow professionally and personally. This includes accepting live-time feedback when needed to correct mistakes and grow in job proficiency.
  • Check estimating queue daily for start and due dates to ensure jobs are on track for scheduled completion.
  • After reviewing the project scope and receiving request information or clarification as needed, ensure all costs associated with the project are captured.
  • Train and assist other team members whenever possible.
  • Ensure the completed estimate is clear and notes detail what STBS includes and excludes from the project.
  • Provide peer to peer accountability using live-time feedback with team members

  • Review projects from Estimator I and/or II as directed by Estimating Leader
  • Identify and communicate with Estimating Leader on potential issues with scheduling and determine how to proceed.
  • Keep the momentum going

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • A solid understanding of MBS
  • Ability to use email, Office Suite, Google Docs, Click Up
  • An understanding of Metal Building Industry terminology, design, and processes
  • Daily contact with the Estimating Leader, sales, and estimating team members when needed.

Education and Experience:

Required: Bachelors Degree, previous metal building

Preferred: Master’s Degree, 5+ years metal building experience.

Physical/Environment Requirements:

  • This position requires intense focus for extended periods of time. Also, having the ability to be pulled out of that focus to help answer questions and work on urgent estimates for sales when needed.
  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time and travel between offices
  • Office environment, no extremes.
