RE Tech is seeing a highly motivated ESG Data Analyst to support our real estate client sustainability programs. The position serves as analytical, technical, and project support for RE Tech’s growing data management, analytics, and business intelligence platform and services. Our data services team helps real estate professionals, institutional investors, and an array of other stakeholders to better monitor and manage costs, make informed investment and operational decisions, mitigate risk, and progress toward energy and sustainability goals. Our data platform includes, but is not limited to, the following technologies: SQL Server, Power BI, Tableau, Python, and Alteryx.


The positoin is based out of our Tysons Corner, Virginia (13 miles west of Washington, D.C.) or our Dallas, Texas Office. After a successful onboarding period, the positoin is open to a hybrid work model that includes a mix of in office and work from home, and open to flex work scheduling. We may consider remote work for a highly qualified candidate with experience working remotely on a consistent basis.


Essential Job Functions / Job Duties And Responsibilities
  • Intermediate level of proficiency in collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and develop data driven solutions.
  • Design and implement accurate, meaningful analysis using sound techniques and approaches.
  • High level of proficiency in coaching and mentoring junior analysts to improve their skills and performance.
  • Publish reports, dashboard, and applications to internal and external audiences, with guidance as needed.
  • Identify and apply appropriate formulas and statistical techniques.
  • Intermediate level of proficiency in identifying opportunities for process improvements for recommendation to the data team technical lead.
  • Perform all other duties as needed and assigned.
  • Intermediate level of proficiency in performing data management activities:
  • Build interactive, multifaceted reports and dashboards that utilize filters and relationships between metrics and visuals, based on an approved design.
  • Design an effective data model for a project task with guidance from the Data Analytics Manager.
  • Intermediate to High level of proficiency in creating data visualization and dashboards with Tableau or PowerBIas follows:
  • Effectively communicate dashboard/visual content to an internal audience, including development of verbiage and/or scripts to present products.
  • Develop intermediate to advanced SQL code, such as nested queries, merge statements, and different functions in SQL.
  • High level of proficiency in ensuring that data analysis and reporting is accurate, timely, and meets business requirements.
  • Work with data sources or equivalent in Alteryx or other workflow tools such as Python or SQL.
  • Support ESG Programs team as needed.
  • Properly and accurately track all your time worked and expenses. Input on time in the expense and time keeping system, billing to the correct codes, and using the correct labor categories.
  • Intermediate level of proficiency in supporting and developing internal data centric tools required for client deliverables:
  • High level of proficiency in creating and maintaining documents associated with any development and support activities.
  • Intermediate level of proficiency in estimating the level of effort to complete tasks.


Essential Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities


  • Intermediate to high level of proficiency in analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities. Strong attention to detail in your work and work produced by more junior team members.
  • Intermediate level of proficiency and knowledge with SQL.
  • Possesses good written communication skills with a propensity to write in a clear, concise manner to convey points effectively, creatively, and with the appropriate tone and professionalism.
  • Intermediate level of proficiency in determining which visuals (such as data layouts, graphics, dashboards, etc.) are more effective than others for communicating results and data – have a design with audience and UX in mind mindset.
  • High level of proficiency with online collaboration and file sharing tools, such as SharePoint and the Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to a changing landscape and client needs, handle multiple time-sensitive priorities, excel in a fast-paced environment, and ability to pivot and adjust priorities and approaches
  • Entry to Intermediate level of proficiency in Python or Alteryx
  • Intermediate to high level of proficiencyto effectively develop measures, calculated columns, and data sets. Be able to communicate the difference between measures and calculated columns, and where to use them (or Tableau equivalent)

  • Intermediate level of proficiency in determining the rationale for selecting specific approaches used in queries, stored procedures, and views (e.g., update vs. insert vs. merge, join types).


Required Education And/or Experience


  • Demonstrated experience with generating insights through visualizations utilizing Tableau or PowerBI.
  • Demonstrated experience with data collection, data wrangling, and ETL.
  • 1 - 2 years of work experience in data analytics


Additional Preferred Experience


  • Experience in a client facing consulting role, delivering professional services, and building relationships across clients and internal teams.
  • Demonstrated experience with ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager a plus, but not required.
  • Experience with ESG data collection and benchmarking with ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager.
  • Experience supporting sustainability, ESG, energy and/or decarbonization programs

Travel Requirements


Periodic travel may be required for the role. Travel may include travel to RE Tech offices, if remote, or between RE Tech offices (Tysons Corner, VA and Dallas, Texas) for meetings (estimate of four times per year), as well as for Legence and/or client business needs.
