Job Description

Workstation Evaluations

  • Conduct off-site workstation evaluations
  • Work with installers and facility trade services to facilitate installations
  • Manage high-risk or disabled individuals’ workstations and work environment
  • Recommend modifications and engineering controls to reduce or eliminate ergonomic risk factors
  • Evaluate and recommend engineering controls for environmental risk factors
  • Insure follow-through and follow-up of workstation recommendations and modifications
  • Perform workstation evaluations to recognize and evaluate ergonomic risk factors affecting an individual worker
  • Identify problem trends or areas and recommend solutions, e.g., laptop use

Record keeping and data management

  • Generate reports based on statistical and predictive/descriptive analysis of symptom incidence, population anthropometrics, etc.
  • Document activities related to pain and disability-accommodation cases
  • Document workstation observations and interventions
  • Provide records to employees or their representative as required by OSHA

Technical Consultation

  • Work with information technology groups to solve technology-related workstation problems
  • Provide human factor data, engineering controls, and anthropometric input for facility project planning and furniture selection
  • Provide technical information to private health care providers or contract employee’s supervisors as required by the OurWorkplace Ergonomics Program
  • Work with the designated health providers to help manage pain and disability cases
  • Provide internal safety audit assistance
  • Conduct industrial/non-office ergonomic evaluations for campus occupants and OurWorkplace operations (e.g., mailroom, cafeteria staff, etc.)
  • Share learning’s within the larger BP HSE community and add value to corporate-wide HSE efforts
  • Work with vendors to encourage development of better ergonomic products and controls

Training Development and Delivery

  • Generate and customize training materials for particular situations or groups
  • Maintain and update ergonomic content of OurWorkplace HSSE website
  • Develop and deliver technical presentations that benchmark BP’s ergonomic programs to the greater HSE community
  • Develop and provide back safety, ergonomic awareness, or other requested health and safety training

Experience & Qualifications

  • Ability to interact with a large, varied workforce and a variety of job disciplines, equipment, and furniture
  • Maintain professional certifications and continuing education
  • Access to additional technical support and expertise on an as-needed basis
  • Work experience of no less than 5 years in HSE with an emphasis on ergonomics or human factors
  • Ability to work at a high-energy level, crawl under furniture, and execute lifts under 50 pounds
  • Tact and sensitivity to employee concerns
  • Ability to find or create innovative, original and cost-effective workstation engineering controls

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in human factors, HSE, engineering, or technical field with relevant HSE qualifications is preferred; will consider candidates with equivalent HSE experience and training.

Certifications

  • Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE) is preferred. If not a CPE, must be eligible and willing to pursue.
