Job Description
PIRATE.COM

Pirate Studios is the world's leading provider of rehearsal and recording facilities for artists, with studios in the UK, Germany and the USA and exciting plans to expand globally. This is a rare opportunity to be part of a global team that is building something extraordinary. Music and tech are central to our mission of empowering artists and creators to succeed.

Equipment Technician

Equipment Technicians play a vital role in keeping our equipment healthy and working to the best standards. Due to the heavy use and constant wear on our equipment, faults are common. After these faults have been confirmed and deemed unsolvable on-site, the Equipment Technician will receive the equipment to be fixed, carry out the work necessary to rectify these issues, and return it to the required studio.

They will likely have a keen interest in electronics and music equipment, have great hands on skills, and a methodical approach to problem solving.

They have a strong positive work ethic and are happy to go the extra mile to ensure a ready supply of working equipment for our studios.

Note: This is a contract role currently offering $20-25 based on experience, hours to be confirmed during interview.

  • Identify faulty components within equipment and replace them independently to a high standard.
  • Keeping the workshop and work areas tidy and safe at all times
  • Liaise with Site Managers, scheduling suitable delivery times for both broken equipment to the workshop, and repaired equipment to the studios
  • Follow regular stock control procedures to ensure appropriate spare parts are available, organised, and on hand for repairing broken equipment
  • Identify problems with equipment and work with the team to solve them as efficiently as possible.

We're looking for

  • Attention to detail and high standard of work
  • Good knowledge of basic electronic components (both thru-hole and surface mount), their values (e.g. pF, nF, uF, R, K, M), and their schematic symbols. Able to identify component types and sizes, and use online electronics retailers (such as Mouser, Digikey, Farnell etc..) to find suitable replacements
  • Aware of the dangers of electric shock and how to prevent them whilst working on equipment
  • Ability to be flexible and reliable
  • Previous experience using and/or repairing Pioneer CDJs and mixers is very desirable
  • Experience of building, repairing, or calibrating musical equipment or similar electronics.
  • A can do attitude, someone who is willing to roll up their sleeves and get “stuck in” to issues as and when they arise
  • Able to fault find and carry out repairs at component level
  • Methodical, systematic approach to fault finding
  • Confident in the use of measurement equipment such as digital multimeters and digital oscilloscopes
  • Excellent hand soldering skills, including thru-hole and surface mount components (0603 resistors, tact switches, SOT-23 transistors)
  • Working well within a team environment, whilst being able to work independently using their own initiative
  • Previous experience dealing with equipment after a spillage is highly desirable
